Then a qualified nursing education or a nursing study can be just right for you. For example, you will learn how to improve people’s health and reduce health hazards. You will be trained on how to relate to sick, disabled or dying people of different ages and to their social environment. You get to know the organization of processes for teamwork.
In our Alexianer Academy for health professions in Berlin / Brandenburg we combine the experiences of a long training tradition with modern training concepts.

Classical, company-based training or academic career?
Depending on the training course, the contents of the training vary as well as the admission requirements. The focus of the training courses in our Alexianer Academy for health professions Berlin / Brandenburg forms the company training in the health care and nursing or the health and nursing assistant. For those who are interested in an academic career, we offer in cooperation with the Akkon University of Applied Sciences Berlin and the Protestant University a dual nursing study, which ends with the professional qualification “Nursing” and the academic Bachelor of Art. For part-time studies we cooperate with the FOM. You will find further information about the courses of study on this page on the right.
We feel particularly responsible to sick people and offer all training courses in the field of care on the basis of a Christian image of man.

Our Alexianer Academy for Health Professions in Berlin / Brandenburg has a long tradition. Founded in 1907 as a nursing school, it is one of the oldest recognized nursing schools in Berlin. You can find more about the story at the bottom of this page.

History of the Alexianer Academy for health professions Berlin / Brandenburg
The history of the today’s Alexianer Academy for health professions Berlin / Brandenburg is at the same time the history of the nursing education in the St. Hedwig hospital in Berlin and in the St. Josefs hospital in Potsdam.
The founding of the Nursing School at the St. Hedwig Hospital dates back to 1907. It is one of the oldest state-approved nursing schools in Berlin.
The St. Josefs Hospital has had a household school since 1903 and later a boarding school. In 1926, the state-approved nursing school was founded in Potsdam.
During National Socialism and the time of the GDR, the independence of the schools was at times considerably limited. With the reunification both schools got the full independence back and were merged in 2001 organizationally.
Teaching has since taken place at the common location in Berlin-Mitte and is organized according to a joint teaching program. The practical training takes place predominantly in Alexianer hospitals and Alexianer care facilities in Berlin and Potsdam.
In 2009, the nursing school was completely renovated, and since 2010, the theoretical lessons are again held on the hospital grounds in the Große Hamburger Straße.
In cooperation with the Protestant University of Applied Sciences and since 2013 with the akkon University of Applied Sciences we have been offering dual nursing courses with integrated professional qualifications since 2010.
In 2014, the nursing school was renamed the Alexianer Academy for Health and Nursing Berlin.
Since the introduction of the new health and nursing assistant training in 2017, the name has changed to the Alexianer Akademie für Gesundheitsberufe Berlin / Brandenburg.
From its foundation until today, around 4,300 students have successfully completed their training.
Since 2017 we also offer a dual nursing course in cooperation with the FOM Berlin.
Since the introduction of the new health and nursing assistant training in 2017, the name has changed to the Alexianer Akademie für Gesundheitsberufe Berlin / Brandenburg.
From its foundation until today, around 4500 students have successfully completed their training.
