Follow-up treatment after the braces
After the actual orthodontic treatment, the tooth stabilization follows with so-called retainers. Fixed retainer devices are only in a specific case cash balance.
The essentials in brief:
- The statutory health insurance pays the retention for up to two years after the end of the active treatment.
- How long this stabilization is necessary depends on the individual case. Sometimes it is recommended for life.
- If there is a crowding in the mandibular front, a fixed retainer is paid by the cash registers.
Why is a retainer necessary??
After the actual braces treatment closes one aftercare which stabilizes the result and keeps the teeth in the new, desired position. This is called "retention". A fixed retainer is a fine wire that is glued to the inside of the teeth. A removable retainer resembles a traditional braces and is usually worn at night.
This follow-up treatment is an integral part of orthodontic therapy. How long it lasts varies and may also depend on the intensity of tooth movement. According to the Federal Dentists’ Association, the tendency to relapse sometimes persists for a lifetime, so that sometimes a permanent, ie lifelong stabilization is recommended.
Does the cashier bear the costs for the subsequent treatment?
It is calculated from the end of the calendar quarter for which the last installment was paid. ?? As a rule, retention takes place from the 13th to the 20th treatment quarter. Mostly removable retainers are used.
A longer stabilization phase than two years must be paid by the statutory insured. Also possible new productions of retention devices do not belong after the conclusion of the regular treatment to the achievement catalog of the legal health insurance companies. These measures ("Long-term retention") charge dentists as a private service.
End subsequent treatment early?
During the phase in which the retention time is cash benefit (maximum 2 years after the end of the active treatment phase), legally insured persons are paid for the retainers and also the necessary repairs within the legal framework. Patients should not seek an early end to the retention phase, even if their own contributions are reimbursed earlier. Because the end of the retention phase within a cash treatment is also the end of the treatment ?? And thus also ends the claims against the health insurance. Should measures still be necessary after that, they must be paid for themselves.
