Tips for trips with children in bad weather

Summer is over and the dark and wet season begins. With children you have to make up a small alternative plan so that you can spend a nice day even in bad weather. Here are a few ideas when the mood is on the ground:

indoor playgrounds

If it is wet and cold, but the children still want to let off steam, then indoor playgrounds are ideal. The children’s club is located in the 15th district of Vienna. Here you can find playground equipment and toys for children up to 10 years on approx. 200 m². For the very little ones there is a crawling area, for the midis an active area and for the maxis the giant tube slide is definitely a highlight.

In the Bogipark in the 23rd district of Vienna, children up to the age of 12 can let off steam. Climbing wall, quad track, crawling meadow, an inflatable giant children’s train are just some of the attractions that can be discovered here.

The indoor playground Familyfun in the 22nd district accommodates a huge slide, climbing frames and also for small children there is a lot of play equipment. Familyfun also offers an outdoor area if the weather is nice.

museum

Culture is also possible with children: in the Museumsquartier in the Zoom Children’s Museum there are workshops for children of all ages, participatory exhibitions or a play and adventure area. In the Museumsquartier itself there are always special events for children, such as the winter festival for children.

In the House of the Sea children can observe almost 10,000 animals on over 4000 m². From crocodiles and snakes to sharks and piranhas, free-flying birds and running monkeys, the children will never be amazed.

In the Natural History Museum the children can observe all kinds of animals in peace, especially the large dinosaur skeletons are a highlight. There are special guided tours for children and special exhibitions for children.

A round trip with an old tram? An experience for young and old! In the Vienna Tram Museum you can see about 100 original vehicles, including buses. On some weekends in the month round trips with museum vehicles are offered, as well as child activities with a special child tram.

thermal spring

Most children love water and especially in the cold season a visit to the thermal baths is a good idea. In the 10th district there is the Therme Wien, where there are attractions for children of all ages: adventure slides for big children, a water play park, a special small children’s pool for younger visitors. There is also a special animation programme for children. Those who have had enough of splashing around can visit the children’s animation rooms and play there.

In the Sonnentherme in Lutzmannsburg everything is aimed at children and my favourite among the thermal baths. There are many slides, an own wave pool and a children’s play pool for the younger children. The tiles are covered with mats so that the children cannot slip. There are also outdoor pools for toddlers and a playground with a huge sandpit. Also wonderful for the parents: there is an hourly child care from 2 years on.

In the Therme Loipersdorf family slides, a pirate ship, diving platforms and a torrent provide fun for young and old. In the huge open-air area you can splash around in good weather or play in the play and sports park.

For children there is a flat indoor and outdoor pool in the Therme Laa. One highlight is the ‘bubble pool’, which is the only one of its kind in the world. Furthermore, older children can slide along a long and winding slide or spend their time in the children’s animation. The Therme Laa offers its own separate area for playing outside the water, where children can play and romp to their heart’s content.

At Aqualand Moravia in the Czech Republic, children’s hearts beat faster. In this spa there are many slides, pools for toddlers and also for babies and a huge outdoor area. The highlights are clearly the modern slides: Wild River, U-Wave and many more await children and the young at heart here. The indoor pool also has many stations to discover: water vortices, wave pools, bubble loungers and fountains are just a few of them.

theatres

Are there theatre performances for children? Yes, there are. The Museumsquartier im Dschungel Wien shows theatre performances for children and teenagers.

The traditional Punch and Judy Theatre is also suitable for the very young audience. The original Wiener Praterkasperl can be seen in the Kasperltheater in the Prater am Wurstelplatz. From my childhood memories I can warmly recommend the Wiener Urania Puppentheater. The children simply love the adventures of Kasperl and Pezi!

extra tip

If you don’t want to spend so much money on an excursion, you should grab your children and drive to the airport. For most children it is quite an experience to watch the planes landing and taking off. Moreover, the flair at the airport is very special and it is simply so beautiful when children’s eyes shine.

I hope there are some excursion tips for everyone, I would be very happy about comments, if a tip was tried out or if someone has other ideas for excursions. Also, photo shows are always welcome, which will then be published!
