Veneers – cost – variants in overview

What do veneers cost??

A radiantly beautiful smile is considered attractive and is sought by many people. In order to achieve this, veneers are often used – even and especially for healthy teeth.

Slight misaligned teeth, small gaps in the teeth and discoloration of the teeth as well as broken teeth can be optically repaired with these ceramic veneering shells.

The thin ceramic shells are translucent and are glued to the tooth surface. Mostly they are hardly distinguishable from untreated teeth. The individual, optimal adaptation allows a very natural-looking result.

But that also has its price: With 300, – to 2.000, – Euro per tooth you have to expect.

Cost composition of different types of veneers

The cost of veneers is made up of material costs and dentist costs.

The latter, in particular, vary depending on the work and time required and are influenced, among other things, by possible pretreatments such as, for example, a correction of the gingival course or bleaching, if particularly discolored teeth can not only be covered by the veneers.

In combination with the material costs this results in average costs of 300, – to 2.000, – Euro per tooth, which in turn strongly depend on the type of veneer used.

Conventional veneers

Conventional veneers are usually about 0.3 to 1.0 millimeters thick. The strength used depends, for example, on the degree of discoloration or tooth position.

So that the tooth does not become too thick with the veneer, a part of the enamel layer must be removed before the gluing of the veneer, so all teeth to be treated are first ground off by the dentist.

In addition, an impression is taken and you get provisional plastic veneers, until the actual veneers can be attached.

The costs for conventional veneers are around 900, – to 2,000, – Euro per tooth.

Lumineers

So-called Lumineers, or non-prep veneers, are thinner than conventional veneers, which allows sticking without previously removing the enamel layer. So no healthy teeth have to be processed. Otherwise the procedure is comparable.

If you want Lumineers, you will have to pay around 700, – to 1.000, – Euro per tooth.

Instant Veneers

Whereas conventional veneers and Lumineers use an impression to produce optimal veneers for your teeth in the lab, which requires at least two appointments from your dentist, immediate veneers can usually be adapted and glued in one session.

Here, standardized veneer templates are used, which are adapted as well as possible. This procedure is much more cost-effective, since there are no costs for laboratories and dental technicians.

Immediate veneers you usually get for 300, – to 400, – Euro per tooth.

However, they are not always adaptable by standardization, for example, when the tooth position opposes.

Cost overview of different types of veneers

method Cost per tooth Cost for 2 veneers Cost for 4 veneers
Conventional veneers 900, – to 2,000, – Euro 1.800, – to 4.000, – Euro 3,600, – to 8,000, – Euro
Lumineers 700, – to 1.000, – Euro 1.400, – to 2.000, – Euro 2.800, – to 4.000, – Euro
Instant Veneers 300, – to 400, – Euro 600, – to 800, – Euro 1.200, – to 1.600, – Euro

All prices are approximate values including VAT and may of course vary.

Often it is sufficient to treat only the anterior teeth with veneers for an aesthetic dentition.

In general, veneers are also much more commonly used on the upper jaw, as it is more relevant to optics than the lower jaw.

Against discoloration often up to 12 veneers are attached. Note that the price per veneer is usually lower when very many veneers are used. So that you can lie on average for 12 veneers at about 6.000, – to 8.000, – Euro.

Reimbursement by the health insurance

Normally, the costs for veneers are not covered by the statutory health insurance, as it is almost always a cosmetic treatment that is performed for purely aesthetic purposes and is not medically necessary.

Even with private health insurance costs are rarely taken over. Even with dental insurance you should absolutely check the conditions in advance, as well as veneers are usually not included here.

Course of treatment with veneers

Before the treatment is first a detailed consultation with your dentist. In addition, contraindications such as a periodontal disease must be excluded. If you often grind your teeth while sleeping, veneers are also unsuitable.
Under certain circumstances, a professional dental cleaning will be done in advance.

Then the required thickness of the enamel is removed for conventional veneers – for Lumineers this step is omitted – before a print is taken. This serves as the basis for making the veneers by a dental technician in a laboratory.

Since you will not get your veneers immediately, unless you opt for instant veneers, you will initially receive temporary plastic veneers.

After your veneers have been made, another appointment with your dentist is necessary, in which he sticks the veneers with a special adhesive. This adhesive must be specially adapted to the thickness of the veneers and the color of your teeth.
It is applied to the inside of the veneers, which are then pressed onto the tooth to be treated. The adhesive is then cured with a blue light lamp.

As a rule, the veneers last about 10 years.
