10 Out of 25 questions to teachers: woman hurts, who is actually it with a litter box

I send mothers, fathers, grandmas, grandpas and other child experts 25 questions, of which they select 10 or more questions to which they want to answer.

Now a drum roll … this is my first teacher interview on the Katzenklo blog!

Today:

Ms. Weh is a teacher at a primary school in the Ruhr area. In her blog K kelpelagogik she writes very amusing and reflects on events in her second class and how to dress and eat in order to be prepared for everyday school life. She is married with three children.

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher??

I come from a classic family of teachers. In my youth I was involved in various other professions, so I almost became a doctor, restorer or instrument maker, but in the end there were simply too many positive and strong teachers in my environment in a positive sense. At some point it was very clear: I want to do that too!

Was there a teacher in your school days who had an impact on your future life??

Yes, definitely. I was very lucky to have a teacher in the upper grades who, in the three years, was not only able to give us a comprehensive overview of educational science, but was also such a wonderful teacher that we also completed a course in humanity, responsibility and mentality to have. To this day he is the role model for my own teaching.

What were the key factors that helped you to be a good teacher?

First of all, I don’t think the status of "good teacher" is set in stone. I try every day to be such a student, but besides great moments, there are always moments when your own actions are questioned and maybe also have to be changed.

What qualifies me for use in primary school, in addition to specialist knowledge, is above all a high resilience and a good mood. I can accept children as they are, which is definitely a plus.

What was your worst school lesson and why?

Oh, I have certainly had many terrible hours given and certainly experienced so many again in my own school days. But I remember one teaching rehearsal during my legal traineeship. Everything was prepared. The examiners sat in the back of the room, the children were attentive. The weather was nice and we had the windows open. Then it happened: a wasp flew in, stabbed a child in the nose and nothing worked. Everything ended in great confusion. A sea of excitement, tears and shouting. I sweated blood and water.

What is your most important advice to parents of a primary school child??

Stay relaxed! And remember that both sides want the best for the child.

What was the best moment with your students?

There are so many! What touched me a lot was a chance encounter while shopping. Then I met one of my first students, who already expressed that she wanted to become a professional. Now she is actually in the legal clerkship and still writes my name in the friendship books of her students under the heading Favorite teachers.

What do you think of six years of elementary school, as it is practiced in Berlin, for example?

I would be very happy for that. Getting into our three-tier school system after four years of school is becoming increasingly difficult.

If you could have asked for something from the Minister of Culture, what would that be??

money for one Top equipment, smaller learning groups and a payment that is matched to the other school types.

My father’s tennis partner was a teacher. When he called us to leave a message for my father, he always asked me: "Is that understood?" Over the years, you have seen such quirks too?

Oh yeah. Sometimes I find it difficult to switch from teaching to family life. What still works for the clarity of the announcements for your own children ("I want you to set the table now!") Is not always an advantage when dealing with your own husband. But I’m lucky, my husband is very relaxed about it.

If you imagine the children of your class in your mind’s eye, what do they need most to be happy?

Someone who believes in them.

Dear Ms. Weh, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!
