Dental care for children – health

Dental care in children

Many parents are very concerned about what they should do to prevent their children from having dental problems. For this reason families;

– When to start brushing?
– What is the best toothpaste?
– When should the first dentist be examined?

frequently ask how. The only reason why they ask these questions is to ensure that their children have a healthy mouth-and-tooth structure in the future.

With the application of the following, it is not far away that our children will rot their teeth in the future.

Babies usually remove their first teeth between 4 and 14 months. Once your child’s first tooth comes out, you should clean the tooth and the rest of the mouth. You can do this cleaning with sterile tampons available in cheese cloths or pharmacies. The first teeth are a sign that your baby’s oral flora has changed. The number of bacteria in the mouth when the teeth are missing, the number of bacteria found after driving and the number of bacteria and types of bacteria are very different. For this reason, it is very important that the mouth is cleaned at the beginning of the tooth break in order to reduce the number of bacteria. After the number of teeth in the mouth has started to increase, cleaning with a cloth must be stopped and a soft brush started.

Toothbrushes should be brushed without toothpaste until the age of 2. After the age of 2, the toothbrush should be cleaned with a toothpaste specially developed for children (low fluorine concentration). Fluorine is still the most effective way to prevent tooth decay. Almost all children’s toothpastes have the same fluorine concentration. Using chickpea-sized toothpaste prevents children from swallowing unnecessary toothpaste. Children love toothpaste because of their taste, and it should be emphasized that children should not swallow toothpaste while teaching children how to brush in the early stages. There are no fluoride-containing pastes abroad for babies under 2 years of age. Unfortunately, these products are not available in our country. Contact your pediatric dentist for more information on using the paste in children under 2 years of age. Dental floss is essential for optimal oral hygiene for both adults and children. The use of dental floss in children aged about 3-4 years is only possible after application by the mother or father. Children can only be between 8 and 10 years old because they can floss themselves.

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists, the first visit to the dentist should be after the first tooth or birthday. The first visit to the dentist will help you to get information about your child’s current tooth condition, how to prevent tooth decay in childhood and detailed information about nutrition / dental health. You will also be informed of how and how often you need to brush your teeth.

The approaches of preventive dentistry change with the age of the children. While the protective applications to be carried out by the dentist up to the age of 1 to 5 years only exist in the form of professional tooth cleaning and fluorine varnish applications, various approaches can be used, e.g. Regular use of fissure seals and fluorine prevents tooth decay up to 90%. Especially during the "mixed dentition" that is entered after the age of 6, a visit to a dentist ensures that your child has a caries-free mouth thanks to the preventive use at least 2 (two) times a year.
