Learning at wards is an open form of teaching.
In art lessons practical work is in the foreground.
At the respective stations, the students will find didactically prepared material. The materials and the tasks to be solved must be understandable and self-explanatory for the students, this allows for independent and self-directed work. The children can freely choose their own pace of learning and the order of the stations in this work. Different forms of work such as printing, painting, drawing or reading provide variety, thereby the students use different learning channels and the learned material is thus anchored safely and sustainably.
Although the workload for the teacher during the preparation is not to be underestimated, but unique, since the station work in the following class can be used again. The initial overtime is worth it, because experience has shown that working at stations is a lot of fun for pupils in art classes!
Organization of a station work
After some trial and error, such labeled shelves have become established in my station work. The individual stations are set up so fast (about 10 minutes) and just as fast to dismantle. The most important materials can be found there, including Ikea’s small easels, which serve as stands for the station’s laminated cover page (name and number).

Class 4c and Class 5c
"We have learned nothing!" This saying of Picasso reflects his emotion at the sight of the images created by Stone Age people in the cave of Altamira and their significance for art again. The origin of art, these paintings painted over 30,000 years ago, is also the origin of modernism and still shapes and employs artists today.
With my station work I want to draw a bow from the cave paintings to their influence on the modern artist, by dealing with both the prehistoric paintings and drawings as well as modern
Artists like Pablo Picasso, A.R. Penck and Otmar Alt and their imagery and artistically deal.
The station work for the cave painting includes 12 stations (see work fun below). In addition to reading texts on stone age, the origin of art and the exciting discovery of the cave of Altamira, there is a station with puzzles (drawings animals from the Chauvethöhle) and a station with several memorys, on whose cards cave images of Stone Age animals can be seen. In a reading cave (station 6) non-fiction and short reading stories are waiting for the children.
At four stations becomes artistic The pupils have worked or learned about artists who were influenced by the prehistoric paintings and sculptures in their paintings.
On Station 1 are pictures of A.R. Penck and students should study his sign language and with a black felt or permanent pen a modern " cave image" continue painting.
On Station 3 On crumpled wrapping paper, the students paint their own cave picture with earth colors and charcoal pencils.
On Station 4 the children work on soapstone (with hole), smoothing it and making their own "stone age"amulet.
On Station 10 Pablo Picasso’s bullies must be sorted according to their level of abstraction, with the last bulls represented with simple but dynamic lines and very reminiscent of cave painting. Put in the correct order, the pictures give the above exclamation of Picasso.
Station 12 Let’s get to know the artist Otmar Alt, who created a series of paintings on cave painting in 2009. At this station, the students paint a Stone Age animal, divide the surrounding areas and paint them colorfully!
Alternatively, I could have offered a station where animals are pottery, but I have decided against it, since I already have a lot to help with the soapstone processing and sound instructions would have been a detailed instruction would have been necessary.
