The Federation of German Catholic Youth advertises for participation in the Synodal Way. Young people up to the age of 30 can now apply for a place at the synodal meetings in Frankfurt. The invitation is addressed primarily to women.

At the Catholic youth umbrella organization BDKJ, young people up to 30 can now apply to participate in the planned dialogue on the future of the church in Germany. The deadline for applications is 1. December at 22.00 o'clock, as it says on the homepage of the Federation of German Catholic Youth. In the week before Christmas, the selection of participants is to be announced. Of the 15 places to be given, "at least 10 should be female". This is what the statutes of the Synodal Way state.

Synodal path to the renewal of the Church

Under the impression of the abuse scandal, the German Catholic bishops want to start their Synodal Way for the Renewal of the Church with the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) in December. Topics include sexual morality, the priestly way of life, separation of powers and the role of women in the church.

At the end of November, the ZdK plenary assembly still has to approve the plan; however, that is considered to be certain.

Candidates should not be ZdK members

The BDKJ belongs to the ZdK. Candidates for participation in the Synodal Way should explicitly not be members of the ZdK, the highest representative body of the Catholic laity in Germany. The first two synodal assemblies are scheduled for the coming year: from 30. January to 1. February and from 3. Until 5. September.

In the advertisement of the BDKJ it says to the address of the applicants: "Please be aware: As a member of the synodal assembly you are automatically in the public eye."
