Attractions for children on Rügen – an overview

The beautiful white sandy beach of Rügen is the attraction for most children, but there are (extremely rare) also on the sunny island sometimes cloudy days – just the right time to do something different. This is especially true during the cold season. Since children are very curious and always want to experience new things, I have put together some ideas for families here:

The little ones always have a lot of fun playing in nature. A beautiful beach playground can be found in the Lauterbach “Goor”, directly on the water. The newly completed nature trail leads directly there. Here the whole family can enjoy the fresh sea air and a wonderful view to the island “Vilm”.

Also in Göhren or Baabe there are beach playgrounds where the children can romp around and feel good. A trip on the Rügen narrow-gauge railway “Rasender Roland” is very popular. On the route of the “Rasender Roland”, for example, lies the Granitz hunting lodge. Those who climb to the top will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the island of Rügen.

If you want to watch the wild animals of the forest, you should get off at the white town of Putbus. A huge game reserve has been created here – idyllically situated in Putbus Park, where you can get close to deer and roe deer. With a handful of bread leftovers or leaves, the animals can be lured up to the fence to eat directly from the hand. This beautiful enclosure has existed since 1833.

Attractions related to nature

Natural Heritage Centre Prora: Here nature becomes an experience, because from the 40-metre-high observation tower of the treetop path, which can also be easily reached with a pram, you can look out over a unique combination of forest, open countryside and wetlands. For the little guests there is a lot to see, for example the “Baumwipfel – Comic – Rallye”, which is intended to inspire young people for biological diversity. Various wooden climbing elements, familiar from ropes courses, make the ascent and descent at lofty heights particularly exciting for children. Courage and balance are required here.

Nationalpark – Zentrum Königsstuhl: On 2000m 2 exhibition space many instructive details await you about the famous Königsstuhl on Rügen. Among them a time lock, a chalk sea, a reconstructed ice age with real ice and some interesting facts about the beech forests and the vegetation of the plants on site.

Rügen tour on the peninsula Jasmund: Here we go for approx. 5 hours with a Hannomag group car AL 28 from the 60’s across the national park Jasmund. The adventurous journey begins along the chalk cliffs, over the graves of the great stones to a chalk mining area. There the mining of the chalk is explained and the guests can enjoy the wide view over the island, the Baltic Sea and the Bodden waters. In the lunch break there is a rustic pea soup for refreshment. At the end of the trip you can admire a real sacrificial stone with a blood gutter, which was sketched by Caspar David Friedrich.

This tour is suitable for children from approx. 2 years.
