What is applied psychology about??

Psychology is an empirical science, at the center of which is the analysis, description and explanation of the inner psychic experience and the outward behavior of a person. External factors that result from the environment and internal variables that are part of human thinking play a major role.

In order to do justice to the complexity of human behavior, psychology draws on knowledge from the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, and gains a unique, interdisciplinary profile through the points of contact with its neighboring disciplines.

Applied psychology focuses on the application of psychological knowledge in practice. The strong practical focus and specialization in selected areas is the main difference to classic psychology.

Areas of applied psychology

Work and organizational psychology: Work and organizational psychology describes and explains the experience and behavior of people in organizations. Typical questions deal with personnel selection, employee motivation and development, psychologically stressful working conditions, management style, the working atmosphere or change processes.
Health Psychology: Health psychology focuses on the research and development of measures to maintain health, promote health and prevent physical illnesses and mental disorders. In this context, therapy concepts are tailored to the individual suffering and needs of people.
Clinical psychology:Clinical psychology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders, mania personality disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders or schizophrenia. In addition to therapeutic procedures, psychotropic drugs are also used.
educational Psychology: Educational psychology deals with all psychological aspects relating to education, training and social coexistence. The knowledge gained is used to optimize educational approaches, didactic concepts and considerate, yet targeted, dealings with other people.
Forensic Psychology: Legal psychology is composed of forensic psychology and criminal psychology. Forensics is about creating psychological reports for criminals suffering from a psychiatric disorder. By contrast, crime psychology has its core in crime prevention and the therapeutic treatment of criminals.

Structure and content of the Bachelor in Applied Psychology

In the Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology, 7 exciting and insightful semesters await you. The course comprises a total of 210 ECTS points. There is an internship semester in the fifth semester.

The teaching of the subject-related psychological content comprises 6 semesters, with the first to fourth semester conveying the basics of the subject. The fifth semester is a practical semester. You can, however, skip the practical study semester if you want to study part-time and have already had the relevant relevant practical experience. In the sixth and seventh semester, choosing a focus enables you to build your own profile. You gain in-depth insight into a specific field. This increases your expertise for starting your professional life. You choose a specialization of your choice and take two specialization modules as well as an additional subject from another specialization. The advanced modules offered are based on current developments in science and practice.

The private university DHGS now comprises three study centers where you can study applied psychology.

Our main location is in the heart of Berlin with a view of the Berlin TV tower. You can expect modern e-learning technologies, a spacious campus garden, a delicious canteen and much more! The Bachelor of Applied Psychology is aimed in particular at high school graduates from the business or natural sciences who want to study psychology without an NC. In addition, we would like to target people with training in the health sector with the psychology course, because you can study at universities of applied sciences in the state of Berlin even without a high school diploma. These include, for example, psychological counselors, coaches & Trainer, nursing staff, health care- & Social managers and others.

Your psychology degree is recognized and accredited by the state

The German Council for Health and Sport was awarded institutional accreditation by the German Science Council due to the high quality of the degree. The university has thus proven that it can achieve research and teaching achievements that meet recognized scientific standards.

The university also received the system accreditation from FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation). The DHGS quality management system was thus awarded the official seal of approval from the German Accreditation Council. Postgraduate master’s program for psychology students

The DHGS offers you an excellent opportunity to complete a master’s degree in applied psychology directly after completing your bachelor’s degree. The master can be studied easily without an NC. A bachelor’s degree at DHGS enables you to start a master’s degree at other colleges and universities.

In the consecutive master’s course in applied psychology, you deepen your competencies in areas such as clinical psychology or counseling psychology. With the expert knowledge you have acquired, you can further improve your career opportunities.

Tuition fees and credits for achievements

The tuition fees at our private university amount to 495 euros per month. As a rule, you can fully deduct the costs for your degree from the tax! In the case of dual studies, tuition fees are often borne by the training company.

Studying part-time is the best way to finance your psychology studies anyway. If you work alongside your studies, you can immediately apply what you have learned in business practice and earn money!
