Questions and answers

In which means of transport are Bayern-Tickets valid?

Bayern tickets are valid throughout Bavaria on all local trains of Deutsche Bahn – RB, RE, IRE – and other railways such as BOB, Vogtlandbahn, BRB, SOB, agilis, BZB, KVG, RBG, in 2nd class.

The tickets are also valid to Ulm Central Station, Kufstein and Salzburg, on the Außerfernbahn, on the Lindau-Memmingen route via Kißlegg, on the alex trains of the Vogtlandbahn as well as on the regional buses of OVF, RBO, RVO, RVA, KOB, RBS and on the CityBus Burghausen.

Bayern-Tickets are valid for S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Bus and Tram in the MVV network as well as in the transport associations in Augsburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg and Würzburg.

The tickets are also valid in the Donau-Iller-Nahverkehrsverbund (DING), in the Ingolstädter Verkehrsverbund (INVG), in the Verkehrsgemeinschaft am Bayerischen Untermain (VAB), in the Verkehrsverbund Mainfranken (VVM) and in the Verkehrgemeinschaften Landkreis Cham (VLC), Landkreis Passau (VLP) and Rottal-Inn (VGRI).

What should I watch for when taking children with me?

Already 1 person can take along as many own children/grandchildren from 6 up to and including 14 years. Children up to and including 5 years travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult. The following 3 examples illustrate this regulation:

A mother travels with her 2 children at the age of 8 and 10 years for only 25.00 Euro in the 2nd class: The basic price for the mother is 25.00 Euro, the children travel free of charge.

A father travels with his 3 children aged 9, 11 and 15. For the father and the 15-year-old child a Bayern-Ticket for 2 persons is required.

A mother takes a trip together with her girlfriend and 3 of her own children under the age of 15: All together they need a Bayern-Ticket for 2 persons.

If you travel with children between the ages of 6 and 14 who are not your own children or grandchildren, they count as normal passengers. If you are travelling with more than two passengers, your own children and grandchildren under the age of 15 can no longer be taken free of charge.

What do I need to know about group trips?

When you purchase your ticket, you are specifying a group size that can no longer be extended. The passengers of the group already fixed at the time of ticket purchase may board the train at various stations on the route.

It is not possible to purchase separate passenger tickets. Please also note that the group must consist of the same people during the entire trip, an exchange of seats on the Bayern-Ticket is not permitted.

When purchasing tickets, all travellers must be entered in the existing name fields.

Where can I get the Bayern-Ticket?
  • DB vending machines at S-Bahn stations
  • MVG vending machines with touch screen at underground stations and many tram stops
  • Ticket printer in regional bus traffic
  • MVG Customer Center
  • MVG sales points in the city area of Munich
  • DB points of sale and BOB/MERIDIAN customer centre – price per ticket €2 higher –
  • Online booking Deutsche Bahn
Do I have to stamp?

No. You don’t have to cancel the tickets. Bayern tickets from vending machines at S-Bahn/U-Bahn stations, MVG customer centres and sales outlets and ticket printers in regional bus transport are validated as soon as they are purchased – and are therefore not suitable for advance sale.

Are Bayern-Ticket and Bayern-Ticket Nacht also available for 1st class?

Yes, you can also buy a Bayern-Ticket or a Bayern-Ticket Nacht 1st class. The easiest way is to opt for this option directly when buying your ticket at a DB sales outlet or at a ticket machine at a S-Bahn station.

However, last-minute travellers and customers who start at underground stations can also buy a 1st class surcharge ticket for the Bayern-Ticket or Bayern-Ticket Nacht 2. Klasse – for this, they pay the difference between 1st and 2nd class when purchasing at DB ticket machines (e.g. Hauptbahnhof). Note: If you buy a train, you pay the on-board price, which is slightly higher than the regular price.
