Benediktenwand (1,801 m) – hike from the Jachenau

Round trip to the Benediktenwand, one of the most famous mountains in the Bavarian Prealps.

His great reputation is due to the “Benewand“The unique summit show due to its exposed location. In the immediate vicinity of the Benediktenwand, there is no mountain that reaches the same height of 1,801 meters. This one has one magnificent view to the Oberland and the Alps.

Our mountain tour on the Benediktenwand described here is a normal one Hike over the west ridge, for which it is only due to the duration of a total of almost 8 hours, already sufficient stamina and condition needed.
For climbers and specialists, there are several climbs over the steep north face.
A nice route for the Tutzinger hut on the Benediktenwand.

The ascent to the Benediktenwand

starting point for our hike to the Benediktenwand the village Jachenau in the municipality of Jachenau at 790 meters (via Bad Tölz and Lenggries). The car is best parked directly in the village in the large parking lot behind the Schützenheim.

At the parking lot you first follow the sign Towards the waterfall over a small brook, out of the small Laine out into the Lainltal flows. It is initially shady in the woods along a beautiful trail along. Short it goes on a road before the way again until just before Lainlalm through a beech forest.
After about one hour running you arrive at the Lainlalm, where you then leave the track and right in the pasture grounds turns. Here the trail leads in about 20 minutes along the stream to Waterfall of the Glasbach.
Now first stop and shake the camera!

Right next to the waterfall It goes then first very steep up until it goes back into the woods and a little flatter.
From the Peterer-Alm it gets steeper again. Rest is very short at about 1,200 meters altitude, where the route crosses the way from the Rabenkopf crosses.
Keep right before it after 50 meters left (follow signposts) steeply up into the forest Direction listing point goes up to 1,324 meters.
Here you have it now After just under 3 hours, we reach the west back of the Benediktenwand.
Now it’s off to the right, over steep and rocky forest road East to the top.

Just over 1,540 meters you reach a small glade from which you wonderful open view to the southwest to the Zugspitze Has. Now it is not far to the summit. First it goes a bit steep before it then goes through the mountain pine gently up to the summit of the Benediktenwand.

The view on the Benediktenwand

The summit show on the Benediktenwand is one of the most spectacular in the Bavarian Prealps. Through the “unobstructed” view you can see very far into the Alps and north to the state capital Munich.

Towards the southwest is the Walchensee With Hirschhörnlkopf and jochberg before a. Right next to it you can see the Herzogstand and Heimgarten. Behind it proudly taunts the Zugspitze and the professional recognizes links of the alpspitze, the schachen and for example the Tyrolean three-headed head. In the southeast you can see the Guffert, the Rofangebirge, the Rear Sonnwendjoch and in the very east on the Ross and Buchstein. On the horizon behind them peep Zillertal Alps, the High Tauern and that, too Kaiser Mountains by.
Down the north wall you see about 50 meters left of the summit cross down to Tutzinger hut. You can almost directly look into the mug.

The descent from the Benediktenwand

The descent could now theoretically also make the ascent. But we would suggest about that Bichler Alm towards Petern and then through the Reichenautal to go back to Jachenau.
It goes here first down relatively steeply on the southern slope of the Benediktenwand at 1,443 meters to the Bichler Alm. A bit of sure-footedness and a sense of balance are needed here.

From the Bichler Alm you can look back on the whole splendor of the Benediktenwand. Then it works, at the Tanner Alm and the Orterer Alm past. A while (le /> go and back to Jachenau by bus moves, or turn right and walk along the beautiful stream on foot back to the village. On Sundays, the decision is easy because the bus does not run at all.

Who is good on foot and a little bit see beautiful nature like, he should “do” the extra 1.5 hours through the Reichenautal. The path along the clear stream is endless, but very scenic (especially in the last third).
Complete walk is then after about 3.5 to 4 hours back at the trail parking lot in Jachenau and can there still cozy in Schützenheim.
