Best new strollers: winter 2012

The official stroller testing has started for our Babble Best Stroller 2012 feature (expected to be in fall!) – but while we’re assembling, rehearsing, and checking, we’re bringing seasonal updates to the latest strollers on the market (or those coming soon, Shelves).

If you are looking for the perfect stroller, take a look at the latest and coolest strollers for winter 2012:

4moms – the same company that gave us the pimped Mamaroo bouncer – brings their signature ingenuity and tech-smart attitude to most modern strollers to this day. We don’t say they are reinventing the wheel – but they are somehow.

Perfect for : Techy parents, the the latest gadgets to covet big and small.

Highlights : Power folding technology, an LCD screen (with a pedometer, thermometer and safety sensors), daytime running lights, charging, cell phone (from January 31, 2012 for $ 39.99), four built-in cup holders, lots of storage, pockets, 40 degrees Sit back, luggage-style pull wheels for these heavy 29-pounders, a built-in generator that charges as you foot, recyclables, Graco car seat compatibility, and a manual override for old-fashioned stroller folding.

Get it from giggles, $ 850

This brand new stroller (set, giggle shelves in spring 2012) has a similar innovation to the origami but with unique properties.

Perfect for : Parents want an all-terrain stroller without buying a larger car.

Highlights : All-terrain (25 lb) strollers that go up to a super thin 9.8" with one hand, automatic headlights, SPF 40+ canopy, solar panels that folds the Zen AAA batteries, car seat adapter for free. The separately available yoga newborn nest serves as a stroller, bassinet, mobile travel cot and portable bouncer.

Weight / Age : 6 months, 3 or 4 years. The cradle of yoga can be used from birth.


Pre-order at Bloom, $ 799 – $ 1,040

UPPAbaby has the most impressive strollers for your Price range. (For every price range, for that matter.) The Cruz shelves a few months ago and was one of the season’s most anticipated arrivals.

Ideal for : price-conscious parents who prefer luxury (still want to save money).

Highlights : smooth maneuverability, a reversible seat, narrow frame, multi-position lean back, car seat adaptability, a large undercarriage, shock-absorbing suspension and a spacious sunroof. It is similar in feel and design to their popular Vista strollers, but to a smaller, lighter frame (weighing around 20 kg, including the removable seat).

Weight / Age : 6 months to 50 lbs Infant SnugSeat ($ 35) available for newborns up to 3 months.


Get it from giggles, $ 460

Originally launched in 2007, Joovy Groove is back with a brand new design from the wheels up.

Perfect for : Anyone looking for an umbrella stroller that doesn’t skimp on the details.

Highlights : removable, oversized full canopy, 2 cup holders, 2 mesh cup / snack / toy holders, a large zipped pocket, sit back with multiple positions, a large reinforced chassis basket (accessible even when lying down), adjustable leg rest, Safety reflectors, comfortable handle.

Buy buy baby, get $ 199.99

A whole new line launched in December, Baby Cargo has the lightest, cheapest and best looking new parasol strollers.

Perfect for : Parents who need a lighter second stroller – but still want to look good.

Highlights : with a weight of less than 16 kg are three new baby stroller parasol strollers: The 100 (weighing 12.3 kg), the 200 (weighing 14 kg) and the 300 (weighing 15 , 8 kg) – differentiated according to functions and colors. But the basic model 100 also comes with an elegant, black matt aluminum frame, removable cover, storage compartments and a carrying strap. Models 200 and 300 have more functions – like a multi-position adjustable backrest and adjustable leg pads.

One of our favorite strollers 2011 has been upgraded with even more functionalities.

Ideal for : all – especially city dwellers.

This brand new stroller (released January 2012) is a sporty addition to the typically elegant and fashionable mom & Papa’s stroller collection.

Perfect for : robust and casual clothing off-roader.

Highlights : High-performance pneumatic tires (with a pump supplied), all-wheel drive, automatic lock fold, one-handed recline, spacious shopping basket, adjustable leg rest and an optional front swivel wheel.

Note: If you are not in off-road, Moms released & Papas also called a new premium stroller in fall 2011 the Luna ($ 299.99), which weighs a little less at 26.2 lbs it out at your local Babies R Us Check.

One of the most trusted baby brands, Graco, adds more convenience to a popular travel system set.

Perfect for : Parents looking for a Graco travel system.

Highlights : Graco’s new addition (released just last month) is a key feature: a one-second fold. Plus a multi-position adjustable backrest, lighter 22-lb, spacious storage basket, contain parent storage (including two cup holders), and a child’s tray with a cup holder.

Weight / Age : Newborns (with travel system) up to 50 lbs.

Get the single stroller at Graco, $ 139.99 (single stroller); Get the travel system with Graco SnugRide Infant Car Seat, $ 159.99

This will actually hit the market in mid November 2011, but it’s an exciting new addition for anyone planning to use a Chicco KeyFit car seat.

Perfect for : new parents who are looking for a simple travel system with their Chicco KeyFit.

Highlights: a convenient, light (11 kg) travel option, including a one-handed fold, expandable undercarriage basket, height-adjustable handlebars, parent tray, toe-tap parking brakes, and four-wheel undercarriage.

Weight / Age : Birth (with the KeyFit car seat) up to 30 lbs.

This popular baby company from Spain makes its USA debut in January 2012 – ready to be a household name.

Perfect for : Parents are looking to start a trend.

Highlights : light weight (13 kg), multi-level sit back, adjustable leg rest, large basket and a unique, compact, upright "Book fold" (instead of an umbrella compartment). It also comes with loads of accessories, including rain protection, mosquito net and maintenance kit.

Weight / Age : 3 months 55 lbs.

Phil & Teds traded for sporty elegance with the promenade, brand new for January 2012. In my opinion it is their best inline stroller.

Perfect for : Parents who are looking for a single-double stroller without the extra bulk and with multiple seating for all ages.

Highlights : Easily convert both seats into travel cot baby carriers. Additional advantages: single-double design, maximum maneuverability, 8 different seat configurations (even for two newborns), reversible seat, extendable handlebars, adjustable footrest, including brackets and airless tires. (Note: the compact design sacrifices some basket space with two children.)

Mountain Buggy releases several exciting strollers in Fall / Winter 2011 – their youngest will be the Mountain Buggy Piste Designer Collection.

Perfect for : Mountain buggy fans who want Luxe fabric tailored detailing and eye-catching colors. It’s a sleek, elegant version of their performance-oriented buggy.

highlight : Colors inspired by spring 2012 runway trends, all-terrain air-filled tires, large weight limit, adjustable handle, integrated cup holder, car seat compatibility, removable front bar.

Age / weight : Birth up to 77 kg.

Quinny’s latest version is my favorite Quinny yet – sleek, modern, and a real kid-pleaser. Available in late January / early February.

Perfect for : someone bored with the typical stroller colors.

Highlights : a variety of head-turning colors (including a white base!), easy automatic opening, one-handed multi-lean back, car seat compatibility, reversible seat, optional front bar. (US version has a curved t-bar, while the Euro version has a straight t.)

Age / weight : 6 months to 50 lbs.

Quinny also released designer special editions of their popular Buzz and Zapp Xtra strollers last December.

Perfect for : Quinny fans with a designer taste.

Highlights : same size Quinny Buzz and Zapp Xtra strollers with an extra helping of style. Only the fabric is different on these special versions.

The Chicco Cortina stroller is a popular classic, and this included a revamped version in their new Chicco Magic Collection, expected to appear in late 2011 / early 2012.

Perfect for : Parents who customized their baby gear.

Highlights : Large Cortina of identical construction (multi-position and flat backrest, four-wheel drive, adjustable legrest, one parent and child tray / cup holder, accessible storage basket and the ability to convert to a travel system with their KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat) in a new gender-neutral, Style-neutral fabrics. Retails for $ 199.99 at Babies’ R US.
