Birth girlfriends – from good parents

Birth girlfriends - from good parents

Birth girlfriends

As a midwife I was allowed to accompany many births. Each one was unique, touching and wonderful – in its own way. But then there are those very special births that I was involved in, not just midwives. The births of people who are close to me.

I will never forget how I was able to catch my nephew. Just in time we had managed to jet from Berlin to Lower Saxony to my sister, after the birth announced with the first contractions. I was crying when the head was just born in my hands. After all, this kid was my nephew. And the wonderful woman who just gave birth to him, my sister. More emotion is almost impossible …

My first godchild was in such a hurry that it was born when I arrived at the place of birth. But the magic of the first hours after a birth was still in the air. Then the beautiful home birth on a sunny spring morning of my dear friend, which went so fast that I was thankful we only lived around the corner. The joint exciting trip with my girlfriend to the birth house, where the little boy was born immediately after arrival. There was my girlfriend, who gave birth to her second child instead of the birth house in the operating room, but this time with an intensive bonding right after birth. What touching first hours together.

Special times

Then there was the birth of my other godchild in the cozy full and quite warm bathroom in the presence of tense siblings. And finally, the long but beautiful birth of the son of a friend in the clinic, after I was allowed to accompany her the first hours of birth at home.

It was all births of children who are now no newborn, no toddler and even no child. Tiny little people who grew and grew a little more each day. People whose way I hope I can go along for a long time. These are births that I will probably remember for a lifetime. The small, fine details that you do not forget because you talk about it again and again. On the weather that day, what we ate or what did well during labor. Things that we were able to laugh about in these hours, despite all our efforts. And then, of course, to that moment when the child is born into the world, into his family and his parents’ circle of friends.

Special situations

I had three friends of my children next to Christian even with girlfriends – my birth girlfriends. My girlfriend, who drove extra 350 kilometers when the birth started with a bubble jump. And the one who stayed with us for the entire 36 hours of birth, and in the first chaotic days was our pagan fairy and above all confidant for all our beginner’s parents worries.

My girlfriend, who went to the birth house at the second birth, to be there for her, but also for me and us, alongside our big little daughter. She waited patiently and patiently with our firstborn on the lap next to the birth tank. Through her quiet presence she has made me feel that everything is and will be good. And my girlfriend, who accompanied me all through the night and was in the early morning with our newly awakened daughters in the arm when our son saw the light of day in front of our sofa.

With friends, you will certainly experience many special situations that will connect you forever. But for me the births are something very special and something absolutely unforgettable. I often have to think about those special hours when I look at all our wonderful children. These timeless moments we spent as friends under birth. As birthmates.
