Bolzano hiking with children – our best hikes

Bolzano hike with children

The most beautiful Bolzano hikes with children

Where to go around Bolzano with children?
For us, Bolzano is very far south, mentally but also geographically. The geographic location in the south favors hikes with children in spring. Here in Italy there is no more snow in the lower regions in spring. The city of Bozen in South Tyrol is located in a basin that is completely snow-free.

Snow is still higher up on the mountain peaks, but in the lower locations it is very good for a spring hike. Our children really enjoyed the hikes around Lake Kaltern and the Montiggl lakes in spring.

It was wonderful to enjoy the sun rays in spring. If you are planning a family vacation in summer: here you can combine hiking with children in summer with a visit to the lido at Montiggler See.

Bolzano hike with children: the castle hike in Eppan

Then there are the castles in Appiano on a family holiday in South Tyrol. Here you will find many castles that can be reached on a hike. A castle as a destination is THE incentive for children to hike and there is even a castle hiking trail to three castles at once! When it blooms here in April, this hike with kids is especially great. We were here at that time and it was already very warm.

Hike to Lake Kaltern

From Lake Kaltern we are to another castle. The light castle rests on a hump right next to the lake. You can see the lake from above. The castle itself is not as exciting for children as the castles of the castle hike in Eppan. Here is our tour on Lake Kaltern:

Bletterbachschlucht Bozen hike with children

And where to go hiking with children in the summer around Bozen?
Don’t forget the South Tyrol hike with children through the Bletterbach gorge. It is called the largest gorge in South Tyrol and we also liked it. It is not a gorge hike by the water, but rather in a large river bed, but entertaining with children. Take a look at the pictures of our gorge hike! By the way, there are several gorge hikes in South Tyrol. In a separate article, we have summarized the most beautiful hikes in the gorges in South Tyrol, where you will find the other gorges in addition to the Bletterbach gorge.

Hike with children in the Dolomites

The Dolomites offer even more beautiful summer tours in the mountains around Bolzano. It is not far from Bolzano to the mountains of the rose garden. Below this text you will find a list of family hikes in and around Bolzano. Or you can spend the night at the rose garden and have a view of the Dolomites when you get up: I recommend the Kinderhotel Maria in Obereggen near Bolzano.

The pram walks in Bolzano in South Tyrol

Hike with a pram in Bolzano?
If you come to South Tyrol for a hiking holiday with smaller children, I have two special hiking tips for this: In Eppan, the hike to the impressive Hocheppan Castle from Missian is also possible with a pram. The castle tour is not possible! The intermediate section between Korb Castle and Boymont Castle is a hiking trail.

The Boymont Castle is also worth a stroll around Bozen with prams: from Missian or Burg Korb (if you stop there, you can park), a steep path leads up to the castle, which you can also hike with a pram. Above is a great view of the mountains.
