Braces for adults: corrections are possible at any age

Misaligned teeth are usually corrected at a young age. The treatment works relatively quickly and reliably in children and adolescents. If you missed this time for a tooth correction for various reasons, you can always have a correction done later with the help of braces. Since adult patients place different demands on orthodontic treatment, orthodontics offers various procedures, all of which promise very good success. The most important thing for most adults is that tooth correction is unobtrusive and remains hidden from others. In our practice, we focused, among other things, on the use of invisible braces. Fixed appliances can also be concealed on the inside of the teeth. This so-called lingual technique is particularly suitable for patients who need fixed braces due to pronounced misaligned teeth, but who do not want to wear them visibly on the outside of their teeth. Adults who have a loose brace to correct their teeth can use Invisalign. The teeth are gradually moved into the desired position using transparent plastic rails. As an orthodontic practice in Munich, we specialize in the treatment of bite correction and misaligned teeth. Thanks to our modern and adapted techniques, we can make successful corrections both for children and adolescents and for adults.

We are happy to respond to your personal wishes and adapt the tooth correction to your requirements. We are therefore happy to be able to advise you in a personal consultation at our practice in Munich!

Braces for adults are possible?

In principle, tooth position corrections are possible in every age. The main difference compared to the treatment of younger patients is the duration: teeth correction in adults usually takes more time.

Adult braces may be necessary and desirable for various reasons. Adult patients often suffer from misaligned teeth that have not been treated since childhood and therefore still exist. Most of the time they want a tooth correction for aesthetic reasons. As part of an orthodontic treatment, the teeth are then straightened and a functional bite is established.

Health problems can also give rise to braces. Misalignment of the teeth can lead to various complaints and can affect those affected, for example when chewing, or lead to TMJ problems and muscle tension. Permanent misalignment of the teeth can also lead to increased wear of certain teeth. In some cases, permanent bad posture also causes headaches. Braces for adults can correct misaligned teeth and tooth migration, compensate for early tooth loss or counteract a shift due to eruption of the wisdom teeth. The correction also creates good conditions if later fixed dentures (implant or bridge) are planned.

Requirements for tooth correction

The treatment is possible for everyone who has healthy caries-free teeth and an inflammation-free tooth holder. In the case of pre-existing conditions, dental treatment is also necessary before starting orthodontic treatment for orthodontists. These include the treatment of caries, gum inflammation and periodontosis, the treatment of TMJ problems and myofunctional disorders (lip and tongue dysfunction).

What types of braces do we use?

Removable or fixed braces are suitable for children and adolescents, whereas fixed braces are useful for adults in most cases. Of course, we also offer our adult patients the opportunity to have minor malpositions corrected with removable devices. When treating adults in our practice in Munich, we pay attention to as inconspicuous or invisible solutions as possible in order to maintain the overall aesthetic impression. State-of-the-art techniques and extensive experience guarantee successful treatment.

As fixed, invisible braces, we offer our adult patients or adolescents the lingual technique, also called incognito braces. It is a fixed appliance that is not attached to the outside of the teeth like conventional braces, but to the inside of the teeth. There it is barely perceived by the environment and also by the wearer itself and leads to astonishing results.

The counterpart to the incognito treatment offers Invisalign, a transparent and removable option to slightly correct the teeth and gradually move them into the correct position. The special thing about this technology is that the plastic splints, so-called aligners, are replaced by the patient every few weeks and are not visible from the outside. For dental care but also for eating, Invisalign can be easily removed and the plastic splints can also be dispensed with at short notice for important events.

Invisible braces for adults

Inconspicuous braces for adults are available in several versions. We choose a model that is tailored to the particular malposition and the patient. In particular, a distinction is made between inconspicuous, barely visible braces in tooth color, almost invisible, transparent splints and invisible braces attached to the inner surface of the teeth.

Incognito braces are fixed braces that are attached to the inside of the teeth so that they are completely invisible to the outside world. Optimal tooth cleaning is required before insertion. The incognito method is based on a bracket system in which each bracket is cast individually for the respective tooth using computer-aided technology. The brace enables extremely precise corrections and meets the highest aesthetic demands. The so-called lingual technique offers the only braces that are completely invisible from the outside.

The Invisalign treatment is a tooth misalignment correction with removable plastic splints (aligners), which are made of a wafer-thin, transparent material. For the treatment, it is necessary to manufacture several splints, each of which is worn for about two weeks before the next splint is used. This treatment is particularly suitable for minor corrections. Invisalign splints are almost invisible, they can be removed for eating and oral hygiene. The high level of comfort and the optically inconspicuous solution speak for themselves.

Fixed braces such as the self-ligating Clarity System consist of brackets that are attached to the outside of the teeth and use tooth-colored ceramic materials to create an inconspicuous look. This method is ideal when large corrections have to be made.
