Brushing teeth in toddlers: a struggle for parental patience

There are plenty of good tips on preventing tooth decay, from floor tablets to cartoon bacteria to brisk little songs. However, some toddlers still refuse to brush their teeth. What can parents try? and how is it really necessary to brush children’s teeth? It justifies the evening fight for the toothbrush at all?

Brushing teeth in toddlers is often difficult

For a while my little one was thrilled: the toothpaste was delicious, the toothbrush was held by a kite, and mom always went along with it. He chewed on the brush, sucked the toothpaste out of the bristles and had the brush without any notable toothbrushing after two weeks runiert. On the contrary, he got bleeding gums more and more until I picked up my teeth. His oral flora has been strengthened since then, but the shouting is great every evening.

Brushing teeth is really so important for the little ones?

Medical opinions differ as much when it comes to brushing teeth in toddlers as parents. It is certain that the fluorine dose is important, but fluorine must not be overdosed. A pea-sized amount of baby’s toothpaste contains enough fluorine. With a few tricks, however, insufficient brushing of teeth can be put into perspective: give water to drink after meals, which at least dilutes the acidity in the mouth. In the evening instead of struggling to brush your teeth, chamomile or fennel tea disinfect the mouth a little, like a mild mouthwash. The gums need the massage for strengthening, so the child has to nibble hard bread or raw carrots.

If brushing is refused: what can we do?

If parents have decided that cleaning before the first understanding of educational stories makes sense, then they have to be creative. Brushing your teeth with a little song didn’t do anything for us because, just like in the stories, my little one didn’t connect the text with brushing your teeth and kept my mouth shut. He snatched a hand puppet from me to brush my teeth and mostly the theater about holding the toothbrush was as big as the shouting about brushing the teeth afterwards (more tips here too).

Problem brushing your teeth? Don’t just keep the kids eating!

If brushing your teeth is still a problem, you can at least take care not to give your child sugar or fruit acid all the time. At one or one and a half years, the children can spend an hour or two without the usual bites on the playground get along. Then brushing your teeth in the evening can be seen a little more playfully, says Dental Health for example.
