With this ideal weight calculator you can quickly and easily calculate the individual ideal weight for women, men, adolescents, children, toddlers and babies depending on age and gender. The interactive ideal weight table shown below also shows you the ideal BMI for the chosen gender and age.
Calculate ideal weight – ideal weight calculator
Simply enter gender, age, weight and height in the ideal weight calculator and then click on the “Calculate BMI and ideal weight":
BMI (Body Mass Index)
The BMI is the basis of the ideal weight calculator and the ideal weight table. The BMI (Body Mass Index) is the most common standard used by doctors and nutritionists to assess overweight, underweight and normal weight and obesity (very overweight).
The Body Mass Index is the ratio of body weight to the square of the height:
BMI = weight [kg] / (size [m]) ²
Example: woman, 66kg, 168cm
BMI = 66 / (1.68) ² kg / m² = 23.38 kg / m²
So the woman has a BMI of 23.38. The unit of the BMI [kg / m²] is usually not mentioned.
The BMI is calculated equally for both genders regardless of age. However, the importance of the BMI depends heavily on age and gender. A comparison of the BMI with the official BMI tables shows whether the person in question is very overweight, slightly overweight, normal weight, underweight or very underweight (anorexic).
If you have your ideal weight calculated using an ideal weight calculator, you should make sure that you only trust BMI calculators and BMI tables whose data source is up-to-date and approved by an official body, such as B. comes from the WHO.
Ideal weight table
The basis for the ideal weight table shown below are the official BMI tables the World Health Organization (WHO) for women, men, adolescents, children, toddlers and babies of both genders. In the ideal weight table you will find the ideal BMI for all ages and both genders – approx. 70 entries per gender.
Ideal BMI – what is it?
The ideal BMI could be described as the BMI that provides the best protection against the health consequences of being overweight and underweight – that is, the BMI at the center of normal weight.
This ideal BMI is on the 50th percentile (this means that 50% of peers of the same size have a smaller and 50% a larger BMI. You can find exactly this BMI in the ideal weight table.
With the Ideal BMI, you can also use the ideal weight formula to calculate the age and gender-dependent ideal weight yourself
Ideal weight BMI formula
Example: young people; Girl, age: 14.5 years, height: 165cm
Ideal BMI according to ideal weight table: 19.9
The girl would have an ideal weight of 54.2 kilograms.
Interactive ideal weight table for all ages and genders
In order to have the ideal BMI for a certain age and gender displayed immediately, enter in the "Search"Field in the ideal weight table shown below simply enter:
- “W03” (for week 3; possible are: W01 – W13)
- “M0” (for months 4-33)
- “J4” (for the 4th year and the years 45-54)
With the field "show entries”Above the ideal weight table, you can display all ideal BMI values of the ideal weight table for all ages and both genders.

The ideal weight table is most applicable to people who are not too far from the average.
Everyone else should consider other scientifically proven methods if they want to calculate their ideal weight. We have put together the best methods for ideal weight determination for you:
Warning – the BMI is not always reliable!
The BMI is an average. For example, the BMI is too large for very small bodies and too small for very large bodies:
The BMI calculator or the BMI table attests very large people to normal weight, even though they are already dangerously overweight, while very small people are suggested to be overweight, even though their weight is completely okay from a health point of view.
In addition to body size, other influencing factors also play a role:
- Ratio of fat and muscle mass
- Body fat distribution
- Bone weight
If these values deviate significantly from the norm, the BMI can be misleading.
Our ideal weight calculator provides an individual tolerance threshold for each ideal weight, which largely compensates for the individual differences, apart from extreme cases.
Another ideal weight calculator
If you want to calculate your ideal weight, you should and should consider other methods besides the BMI.
Calculate the ideal weight according to Broca
The Broca ideal weight calculator uses the Broca Index, which was developed by the French doctor and anthropologist Paul Broca (1824-1880).
Broca formula for ideal weight:
Normal weight [kg] = (height [cm] – 100) • s
Man: s = 0.9; Woman: s = 0.8
Ideal weight calculator according to Broca:
The advantage of calculating the ideal weight according to the Broca formula is that you can quickly calculate your ideal weight in your head. However, the Broca Index is usually less accurate than the BMI.
Calculate ideal weight with the Ponderal Index Calculator
The ponderal index (PI), which is hardly known but was proposed in 1908, is calculated in a similar way to the BMI:
PI = body weight [kg] / (height [m]) ³
(PI = BMI / size [m])
Values between 11 and 14 [kg / m³] for the ponderal index are considered normal for children and adults. Babies up to the age of 1 usually have a PI of 24 kg / m³.
If the ponderal index (PI) is less than 11, this indicates underweight in children and adults; overweight Children and adults have a PI that is greater than 14; from a ponderal index of 18.5 onwards one speaks of obesity or obesity.
Calculate ideal weight with the corpulence index:
Similar to the Broca Index, the meaningfulness of the Ponderal Index is limited. It is rarely used by doctors today.
Calculate the ideal weight with the WHR calculator
In contrast to the ponderal index calculator, the WHR (Waist Hip Ratio | Waist-Hip Ratio) is a real alternative to the BMI. The WHR or in German THV outperforms the BMI especially in cases where the BMI fails. It is interesting that the WHR takes neither body weight nor height into account.
Unlike the BMI, the WHR does not ignore the particularly harmful body fat that increases the waist circumference (waist). And that is exactly what matters, as more and more studies clearly demonstrate.
Calculate the ideal weight with the WHtR calculator
The currently best tool for assessing the health hazards that result from excessive or too low body fat is the WHtR (Waist to Height Ratio | Waist to Body Size Ratio). Similar to the WHR, the WHtR takes into account both the body fat percentage and the body fat distribution.
