day 2-3: banff national park in the rocky mountains, alberta: discover the breathtaking nature and wildlife
the huge mountains of the rocky mountains are soon visible on a clear day. it is only a short drive on your canada road trip to banff in the oldest nature reserve in canada, founded in 1885. banff national park offers a dream landscape of turquoise mountain lakes surrounded by forests and the mountains the rocky mountains. most famous is lake louise, which is fed by the melt water of a glacier and offers with its azure blue color an ideal photo motif. the rockies are home to black bears and grizzlies, elk, wolves and wapitis. The wildlife has been protected for a long time, so the chances of encountering one of the many animals here are high. you have plenty of time to explore the natural beauty of the rocky mountains with its snow-capped peaks and picturesque waterfalls and lakes.

day 4-5: panorama road, columbia icefield glacier field, athabasca waterfalls, jasper national park in the rocky mountains, alberta, own explorations, optional: boat trip maligne lake
your canada road trip takes you to another rocky mountain hotspot, jasper national park. on the icefields parkway you reach the columbia icefield, with 325 sqkm the largest glacier field of the rockies. this scenic road offers beautiful views and leads you past rock formations to athabasca waterfalls. jasper national park offers a variety of outdoor activities in the midst of an impressive ecosystem full of picturesque lakes, endless forests, impressive glaciers and deep canyons. Hike through the maligne canyon or along the beautiful maligne lake. You can also take a ca. 90-minute boat trip to spirit island on maligne lake (optional, ca. 67 $ CAD).

your car trip through canada leads you further west, past the big ranches of the cariboo. the town of williams lake is located on the gold rush route to the klondike and is famous for the second largest rodeo in canada after calgary. take a break here before continuing on the famous freedom route past indian reservations to one of the most remote areas of western canada, the chilcotin high plateau. in the wilderness of canada

day 9-11: by seaplane to wilderness lodge, british columbia, log cabins on the lake, hiking, relaxing, wildlife watching, canoe tours
you drive only a few kilometers further west, then you reach nimpo lake. this is where your wilderness adventure begins. in a seaplane you fly to the tetachuck wilderness lodge. the wilderness lodge is only accessible by boat or bush plane and is located in one of the most remote areas of british columbia. in the middle of this picture book landscape you will stay in a log cabin on the lake. the log cabins offer a shower and toilet, some also have an open fireplace. here you can switch off from everyday life in the middle of the canadian wilderness away from civilization. in addition to individual hikes and wildlife watching, you can also take canoe and kayak tours. near the lodge bald eagles nest, moose and bears can be seen and caribou herds swim through the lake in spring and fall.

day 12: bella coola valley, adventurous mountain trail, salmon hike depending on the season and bears
your canadian road trip will take you to the beautiful fjord landscape of british columbia and the indian settlement of bella coola. on an adventurous mountain road you will drive over the legendary heckman mountain pass on a good gravel road to the pacific fjords. drive through the valleys of tweedsmuir park and the norwegian settlement of hagensborg. the bella coola river is visited every year by hundreds of thousands of salmon, which migrate up here – depending on the season – and attract numerous bears. take the opportunity for a short hike through the picturesque rainforest.

boat trip to vancouver island

day 13: discovery coast passage from bella coola to port hardy through the hakai nature reserve
early in the morning you will leave bella coola by boat. drive through the fjords of the pacific coast, through the magnificent hakai nature reserve and across the open ocean to the port city of port hardy on the north coast of vancouver island. in good weather this trip is a great nature experience. Watch out for whales, dolphins, otters and eagles, which you can spot with a little luck. arrive in port hardy in the late evening.

day 14-15: vancouver island : optional whale watching and the coast of pacific rim national park, beach walks
you will drive through vast forests to telegraph cove, where you can take a whale watching tour to robson bight (optional, approx. 100 $ CAD). robson bight is considered the best place in the world to see sword whales. Afterwards you will drive south on vancouver island on a winding mountain road and along breathtaking coastal landscapes of the pacific rim national park. Here is the opportunity for a second whale watching tour at the broken islands (optional, ca. 100 $CAD). With a little luck you can observe gray, humpback and swordfish whales as well as sea lions and sea otters here. the endless sandy beach of long beach is worth for a beach walk.

day 16: victoria, vancouver island: walking and exploring on your own initiative
your canada road trip takes you further south to vancouver island. the pretty harbor town of victoria is your destination today. stroll along the victorian buildings and enjoy the flair of this charming harbor city.

day 17: ferry ride to vancouver, drop off your rental car and explore the city
by ferry to the colorful metropolis of vancouver. Here you can drop off your car today. Enjoy some of the city’s many attractions. Stroll through the stores and cafes of vancouver and use the day for souvenir shopping. if city life doesn’t appeal to you, stanley park, one of north america’s largest and most beautiful urban parks, is a great place to visit.
