Classic data

ON THE SAFE SIDE

Is a self-assessment sufficient or is an expert opinion required??

Every vehicle owner must answer this question for themselves. As a driver of a classic vehicle, you should be aware, however, that in the event of damage, the burden of proof lies with you as the vehicle owner. Often, a pure self-assessment does not stand up to a legal dispute.

Regardless of the reason for the valuation, an appraisal helps to avoid uncertainties, misunderstandings and risks.

Depending on the situation and requirements, an assessment can be either short and compact or detailed and extensive.

All valuations are always carried out in accordance with the classic data principle, a "four-eyes" approach. This follows the principle of clear separation of tasks.

The expert inspects the vehicle on site, determines a condition score on his own responsibility and sends the technical data to the classic data central office. There, all parameters are manually checked by trained employees for correctness and conclusiveness against our archive. classic data then determines the market or replacement value for this vehicle type in the known 5 condition grades.

These values are made available to the expert in the form of a certificate as a basis for drawing up his report. With the help of the classic data values and taking into account all the factors influencing value, the expert finally determines a final value.

The classic data certificate reflects this principle through its visual division of the document into two halves, each of which is verified by a stamp and signature.

BRIEF EVALUATION

The short valuation is based on a rough, external inspection by the classic data valuation partner.

The short valuation was developed by classic data in the 1990s in cooperation with the insurance companies. The aim was to offer a cost-effective form of valuation for special classic car insurances between the self-assessment and the normal expert opinion.

In contrast to a subjective self-assessment, the condition of the vehicle is documented by an independent expert with an overall condition grade and value. The expert confirms with his signature that the photos and the identification numbers belong to the vehicle being evaluated and are not from another vehicle of identical construction. In addition, the correspondence of the identity of the classic car with the vehicle documents in the central classic data archive will be checked and confirmed with signature. An important point, since ca. Every fourth vehicle registration document in germany contains errors.

During a brief inspection, the on-site expert looks for major defects such as engine noise, accident or hail damage, rust or water damage. points that are often "hidden" in a self-assessment with photos. An inspection of the underside of the vehicle and also a test drive are not carried out. This explains why the short rating is only used for insurance classification and is only accepted for vehicles up to a certain value.

The short valuation is not suitable for the valuation of high-value vehicles or the purchase/sale of a vehicle. In this case, the detailed vehicle valuation is recommended, which involves an intensive appraisal of all components (without disassembly).

Scope of inspection of the short valuation:

  • Verification of the vehicle identification number
  • Listing of technical data and equipment
  • Visual inspection of the vehicle and the interior
  • Superficial authenticity check of the appearance and recording of any missing or damaged parts
  • Test run of the engine

As the owner, you bring the vehicle on its own axle to the appraiser and inform him of all information known to you, including the identification of the vehicle. Defects to the vehicle in knowledge. you have the option of receiving an extended brief valuation with supplements and additional photos. Please discuss the resulting additional costs with the expert on site.

Important: if in the certificate a vehicle type exceeds the value of 150.000 euro in note 1, a short valuation is no longer possible for this model, even if the inspected vehicle does not correspond to condition note 1.
