Catholic-international family center st

profile

The family center is an institution of the Catholic parish of St. Maria. The KJHG (Child and Youth Welfare Act, especially chapters 1 and 3) applies in this institution. The Lower Saxony Daycare Act and the educational and orientation plan of our state apply here.
Admission takes place via a waiting list, which was determined by criteria of the city of Hanover and the parents’ council, and / or for socio-educational reasons by the management of the family center.
The concept is based on the "Regulations governing childcare in Catholic day care centers for children in the Diocese of Hildesheim".
Further bases for admission are the care contract with attachments and the “Information for parents" (see attachment to the supervision contract)
The sponsor, the parish of St. Maria runs two family centers and is located on the same property together with the Catholic International Center Hanover (KIZH). The KIZH is home to the Italian, Croatian and Spanish-speaking missions together with the St. Marien community and our family center.

Our mission statement

All people are equal before God.
As a Catholic daycare center, we are guided by the gospel and live the Christian faith.
We offer the children a Christian orientation, as an opportunity to shape their lives and we value every family with its own religious tradition and culture.
Every child is an individual wanted by God who always deserves our respect.
We regard children as independent personalities and use your curiosity, their skills and interests to enable them to develop further.

Due to the multicultural diversity of the employees and the understanding of a world church, our facility is particularly sensitive to diversity of faith and culture.
We offer children and their parents our values and beliefs as support for a successful life.
It is important to us that children and parents participate in our offers so that they can develop their own attitudes. We wish curiosity on both sides and exchange.

As described in the mission statement, the early excellence approach is very important to us. It perceives each child positively and initiates and accompanies educational processes together with the parents.
The chapter Basics of Pedagogical Work and Goals explains how these processes are developed. (Educational strategies)

structure

The Catholic parish of St. Maria in Hanover’s north town has been running this day care center since 1973. Over the years, it has been expanded to meet the needs of users and has been opened in five groups as a family center at the new location in Paulstrasse since 2013.
The sponsor freely designs the educational work within his specific concept.
In principle, children from about 12 months to about ten years can be admitted.
Belonging to the Christian Church is not absolutely necessary. The family center is an offer for children and their parents in the residential area with a corresponding worldview and values.
The living environment of the facility consists mainly of multi-family houses, which are inhabited by families with both parents, as well as by single-parent or patchwork families. The proximity to the university is reflected in the waiting list. Single and senior citizens complete the picture. Many nationalities and cultures live in the district.
The facility is easy to reach by public transport (subway, suburban train, bus)

Furnishing

The five groups are in one two story house. Each group has a bright group room with its own sanitary area.
In addition and for all children there is a bistro, a large multi-purpose room, a bedroom, a library, a workshop, a children’s kitchen and several rooms for differentiated work in small groups or as a meeting point for parents, relatives or cooperation partners.
The crèche children have their own outdoor area designed to meet their needs and skills. A direct exit ensures access. To the street it is limited by a high visual and noise protection fence.
The spacious playground for kindergarten and after-school children surrounds the church on two sides. Old trees provide shade, protection and good air. The play equipment was completely renewed in 2013.
The building itself is a spacious two-story house, with the crib and the two cross-age groups, the bistro and the multi-purpose room on the ground floor. The kindergarten group, the after-school care center, a large children’s kitchen, rooms for small groups and parents are located on the upper floor.

Basics of our educational work

we take from the Lower Saxony education and orientation plan with the nine fields of learning and experience. In order to provide each child with a safe environment for learning, there are core groups with caregivers who know the child particularly well and who also maintain direct contact with the parents as the most important educational partner. They accompany the child in the independent development of his environment and learning fields. (see transitions, slope groups, participation in the conception).

As in all family centers, the idea of early excellence is visible in our pedagogical activities: We experience the child from the start with curiosity, motivation and it independently controls its educational processes. For us, this means that we wait and observe at a respectful distance. We are available to the child as a partner who, among other things, encourages them to take appropriate risks, who is interested and who builds on previous experiences and experiences. We make sure that the child finds the conditions and materials to develop and research. We take the child serious and embark on a research trip together. The uniqueness of the child is emphasized both in the mission statement and in the early excellence approach. Children choose their game and their play partners themselves. They have an influence on the equipment of the rooms and on the rules. This happens in the group circles as well as in the children’s parliament.

A child actually needs three things:
Tasks that can grow
Role models to orientate themselves on
Community in which it feels safe.
(Gerald Hüther, brain researcher)

We highlight three areas from the education and orientation plan:
We are "Moving kindergarten" with trademark since 2007. This certificate was handed over by the Ministry of Culture and is checked every two years. It ensures that our supervised children find a sufficient amount of exercise in the daily routine. We passed the fifth review:
Because learning needs movement!

The orientation plan states ethical and religious questions, basic experiences of human existence:
We perceive that children and families do not naturally belong to the two large Christian churches. We know that there are different lifestyles, cultural, religious attitudes and characteristics. Nevertheless, questions about the meaning of life play an important role in education.
We let children and their relatives participate in our faith, the church festivals and offer them the promise of God’s love for all people for a successful life. Stories from the Bible, songs and prayers, as well as visits to our church are part of everyday life. We value other believers and show interest in their perspective.

In our family center is German, the language of mutual communication. Children who speak a different mother tongue receive support in learning the language. Also through cooperation with experts. However, German-speaking children can learn other languages and spend positive time together.

There is a detailed concept in the facility, which is regularly checked or adapted and jointly developed by all educators. Children and relatives also have an influence on the concept, as do findings from brain researchers, neurobiologists and other specialists. A training concept and our quality management monitor the constant preoccupation with pedagogical basics and explanations.

Relatives and friends can in the Association of the St. Maria day care center, who was founded in 2007. With this support, the playground, in particular, could be created in a new and motivating way after the facility was enlarged. The accompaniment to festivals, the financial injections for special purchases, the submission of funding applications and the subsidy for the participation of all children in special activities are also available on the agenda.
You can become a member for an annual subscription of only € 15.00.
We are also happy about individual donations (a donation receipt for the tax office is possible).
