Hotels New York cheap: our highscore list

Very popular: The POD 51 (double room from 97 EUR)

The POD 51 is one of the most popular 3* hotels in New York. The design of the rooms is modern, clean and genuinely beautiful.

With Rooftop-Bar: The POD 39 in Murray Hill (double room from 111 EUR)

POD 39 belongs to the same hotel group as POD 51. It’s a fantastic mix of design, price and features – and best of all, it’s a great rooftop bar right on your hotel!

POD 39 is at 39th Street and Lexington Avenue in Midtown. I like this corner a lot, because there’s a lot of real New York like bars, diners etc. – check it out.

Comfort Inn in Midtown West – Hells Kitchen (double room from 128 EUR)

Another hotel that made it on my list is the Comfort Inn in Midtwon West. It has recently been renovated, so the facilities are up to date. The rooms are bright and have a typical New York size.

YOTEL – Times Square (double room from 117 EUR)

The YOTEL at Times Square is a good example that a design hotel with a good view does not necessarily have to be expensive! The rooms are modern and more Scandinavian. I like that very much because the rooms radiate a pleasant tranquillity. Therefore I can warmly recommend the YOTEL to you. It is not only one of the most popular hotels in New York due to its rooftop bar with a view over the skyline – and at sensational prices!

Wyndham Garden Long Island City – Manhattan View Queens (Double room from 96 EUR)

The Wyndham Garden Long Island City Manhattan View is located in Queens, close to the Queensborough Bridge and the popular Z NYC Hotel. The hotel is well connected by the nearby subway station and you can reach Times Square in just 10 minutes.

As you can see from the rating, the Wyndham Garden Long Island City is booked with pleasure and recommended just as gladly!

The Aloft Hotel in Lower Manhattan (double room from 100 EUR)

Aloft Hotel Downtown Manhattan is situated in a great downtown Manhattan location near the One World Trade Center and Wall Street. It reminded me a little of the Motel One hotels, where I stayed several times in Germany.

Everything is kept relatively small, but there is no lack of cleanliness or a chic interior. Here the price-performance ratio is right.

Hotel 31 in M > Picture: http://www.hotel31.com/

Hotel 31 is located between the park and Lexington Höhe (surprise!) of 31st Street and is the sister hotel of Hotel 17. Only 2 blocks away is the restaurant Les Halles. Around the hotel there are various cafés, restaurants & bars – we were really satisfied! The Empire State Building, Times Square, Herald Square and Madison Square Park are within walking distance. A perfect location to explore New York!

The hotel is by New York standards almost a bargain: the prices for double rooms start at 116 EUR (excluding breakfast). The rooms are deliberately kept simple, which is absolutely ok for some stays (e.g. if you spend a lot of time in bars etc.) and you are only in the hotel to sleep anyway. Some rooms have their own bathroom – others have a shared bathroom on the same floor and an extra bathroom with WC. These are cleaned several times a day and are therefore really clean.

The hotel will not win a design prize, but the location, price and cleanliness make Hotel 31 a recommendation!

Directly at Central Park: The Hudson River Hotel (double room from 143 EUR)

With an unbeatable location directly at Central Park, the Hudson Hotel offers you a “home away from home” for your next stay in New York. The hotel at Central Park has convinced us because of some special features: It has not only a wonderful lobby in winter garden style, but also a fantastic view from the hotel’s own rooftop terrace. For a reasonable price you get well-equipped rooms in a beautiful design. The rooms are quite small, but there are enough rooms in the Hudson River Hotel where you can stay. There are two bars – a more chic cocktail bar and a cool “library bar”.

Directly at Times Square: Row NYC (double room from 113 EUR)

The Row NYC offers an all-round package for travellers with slightly higher demands. Just a few blocks from the vibrant heart of Manhattan – Times Square – you’ll find the Row Hotel NYC in the best location for Touri days. Sometimes you might find it hard to get out of this great hotel, because you can even find the popular Food Hall City Kitchen here. So there’s no shortage of culinary options here – and to burn the extra calories again, you can go to the hotel’s own spinning studio! A great deal for a small price in the middle of the action!

The Jane Hotel: Accommodation with a lot of history

The historic Jane Hotel is almost a sight in New York. The hundreds of years old landmark of the city is located in the chic Meatpacking District. What makes the hotel so special is that it used to be a hostel for the survivors of the Titanic accident. Therefore the rooms are a bit like ship cabins. The reception desk is vintage and the hand-operated elevator is nostalgic. Located directly on the Hudson River and only a short walk from Union Square, the Jane Hotel is a quieter, yet well connected location. You can get a double room from 200 EUR per night. For a single cabin with shared bathroom you pay almost 99 EUR per night. Another tip: Here you can rent free bicycles to explore the city!

The Bowery House: Stylish hostel for young travellers

This loft-style hostel is especially suitable for young travellers who don’t mind sharing shared bathrooms. The Bowery House offers a great price-performance ratio: you can choose between different rooms, which are called cabins here. Some have no windows and are slightly smaller, but there are larger options. The hostel is decorated in a modern vintage look, everything is tastefully but exceptionally furnished. In the lobby large leather couches invite you to get to know the other guests. Especially young people will get their money’s worth in the Bowery House: The nightlife in this area of the Lower East Side is vibrant, no matter which day of the week.
