Child benefit after training

If your child is about to finish an apprenticeship, it’s best to let us know in good time. We will explain to you what evidence we need for this.

If your child has completed his education and started work, you usually have no entitlement to child benefit more. It is best to inform your family fund about this before you start work.

In principle, you should always let us know when your child has finished his education. We will check the actual end of the apprenticeship and pay the child benefit that you are still entitled to as soon as possible.

Does your child have the final exam not yet filed, please let us know when the exam is expected to take place.

In all the cases mentioned, please submit the completed form "Declaration on the training relationship" or one Copy of the examination certificate at your family fund. You can make grades and evaluations unrecognizable in the documents.

All forms can be found at the bottom of the page. You can call them up, fill them out online and save or print them. Please note that you have printed out all forms and signed have to submit.

Special cases

Your child is looking for work

If your child is registered as a job seeker with the employment agency or job center, you are usually entitled to child benefit. This applies until Day before the 21st birthday of the child.

Please submit these forms to your family fund:

  • "Declaration on the training relationship" or a copy of the examination certificate
  • "Explanation of the circumstances of a child over 18 years old"
  • "Notification of a child without an education or job"

Your child is looking for further education

In this case, you usually have until the day before your 25th birthday child’s right to child benefit. This only applies if your child does not work more than 20 hours a week on a regular basis or is at most marginally busy.

In this case, please submit to your family fund:

  • "Declaration on the training relationship" or a copy of the examination certificate
  • "Explanation of the circumstances of a child over 18 years old"
  • "Notification of a child without an education or job"

Your child did not pass the final exam

If your child has not passed the final exam and their education is being extended, please inform us immediately. Submit a copy of the contract extension or a confirmation from the training company.

Please let us know if your child retakes the final exam, without that the apprenticeship is extended. In this case, let the school confirm the new exam date and submit it to your family fund.

Inform us

Even if one of the above cases does not apply to you: Please inform us about your child’s current situation. You should therefore also submit the "Declaration on training relationship" if.

  • Your child has not yet passed the final exam. Enter in the declaration when your child is expected to take the exam. Please submit a copy of the examination certificate as soon as you have it.
  • You do not have the certificate yet. Enter in the declaration when your child has finished the apprenticeship and please submit a copy of the certificate or proof of completion as soon as possible.
  • Your child ends the education later than planned. This enables us to pay you child benefit that you may still be entitled to as quickly as possible. Instead of the declaration, you can also submit a copy of the examination certificate.
