  • at least two independent brakes (preferably coaster brake hub + two high-quality rim brakes for front and rear)

  • four yellow spoke reflectors or reflector strips
  • white headlight and reflector (front)
  • red taillight and two reflectors, one of which is no longer mandatory but is nevertheless advisable (rear)

In principle, a 24 inch wheel does not differ much from one 20 inch children’s bike. However, as already mentioned at the beginning, you can now definitely rely on a powerful and somewhat more complex gear shift. A 21-speed chain or hub gear is in the most Cases definitely appropriate. After all, the child rides so safely at this age that small or large bike tours can also be undertaken, where a sophisticated gear shift is advantageous.

With this bike size you can do without a closed chain guard. Ultimately, however, this is at your discretion, there are both versions to buy. A high top tube should still be avoided and a slightly sloping one should be used instead. In addition, a handlebar pad is still not to be neglected.

Falls at this age are still not uncommon. Impact protection can help to mitigate or even prevent injuries. Of course, increased security also includes a tight-fitting helmet and a high-quality folding or padlock. And since the child is going to be off-road more often now, fenders are almost essential!
