Children’s books: these classics don’t age

Children love repetitions. They provide the scaffolding that they cling to while experimenting with life in between. But obviously parents also love repetitions because they do keep returning to the books they read as children.

Not least because of this nostalgia, some children’s books owe the "Classic" award. Here is a list among the picture books – without claiming to be complete.

Books like this have to stand up to more competition than ever: There have never been so many children’s books. But that also leaves many parents at a loss. They feel overwhelmed by the selection, but often underinformed about the content. Therefore, many like to take what they know themselves.

Children’s book classics, it is assumed, have lasted so long because they are good books. Christine Nöstlinger once said that children’s literature is not a flanking educational measure.

The popularity of everyday literature, which persuades children to go to the toilet, is limited anyway.
