What do you eat in Jordan??

The Jordanian family likes to come together for a meal. Thus, the cohesion of the family is also reflected in the eating habits of the people. Many Arabic dishes are also found in Jordan.

What does breakfast in Jordan look like??

The most important meal is lunch

However, the most important meal in Jordan is lunch. These include, for example, the popular appetizers that are mezze call. These can be served cold or hot. They are applied in small bowls, so that everyone can use any. Small pieces of meat, vegetables or even salads and sauces are included.

An important part of almost every meal is also flatbread, which is often used for dunking and spooning the food. The locals eat mostly by hand, with only the right hand should be used, never the left, because in most Arab countries is considered impure. In the restaurant, of course, eaten with a knife and fork. People who eat flatbread and appetizer are often already full, especially since the portions are usually plentiful.

A sheep’s head on the table?

As a main course usually come Grill on the table. Often the lamb or chicken, rarely beef and never pork, because Muslims do not eat pork. Mostly the meat is grilled.

The national court of Jordan is called Mansaf and served on a large plate. This is a very special Jordanian dish originally from the Bedouins. The basis is a whole lot of rice on which parts of a mutton are served. And the special thing: The skull of the animal is still on it. Those who have no more appetite, it is their own fault, think the Jordanians, because they love this food. On the rice come almonds and pine nuts and the rice is soaked with sheep’s or goat’s milk. So the dish tastes a bit strict for our taste.

Another typical Jordanian dish is called Musakhan It consists of chicken with onion sauce and is served in a flatbread.

For dessert, there are sweets such as milk pudding with rose or orange blossom water, dry pastry with nuts or dates or the popular Baklawa, a very sweet pastry.

Jordanians like to drink tea with lots of sugar, sometimes spiced with mint, Arabic coffee and many fruit juices such as fresh orange or lemon juice.
