There are 24 time zones on Earth. That means, for example, in Germany is day, while in the US is still night. Large states such as the US or Russia span several time zones.

If a state controls information in newspapers, on the radio or even on television and the Internet and prohibits certain information, that’s what censorship is called.

Central America forms the land bridge between North and South America. A isthmus in Mexico forms the northern border and Central America ends at Panama’s southern border. The whole region, together with all the islands, is called Central America.

In a centralized state, the government exercises power over the entire territory from one center. Mostly this is the capital. An example of a central state is France. Another word for central state is unitary state. Germany is not a central state, but a federal state, because each state has its own government, which also has powers.

A ceremony is a festive act that follows certain rules. This is usually something to celebrate. Such ceremonies can be private, but also take place in public. For example, ceremonies may take place at the New Year, a coronation, an inauguration or a wedding. The preparation of a drink in a very specific way is a ceremony, such as the Japanese tea ceremony.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a religious community. They are Christians and believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ. They are missionary, they do not celebrate religious festivals and they do not celebrate a birthday. They refuse blood transfusions.

By civilization is meant a certain level of development of society. Technical and scientific progress enables certain living conditions. Characteristics of a civilization are the formation of a state, the formation of cities and the division of labor among the population.

All persons who are not soldiers belong to the civilian population. They are also called civilians or civilians. The word is derived from Latin: "civis" is the citizen. Unlike soldiers, civilians do not wear military uniforms.

Customs is a charge for goods that has to be paid when something is brought over a (customs) limit. The customs officers control the goods imported across borders. Certain goods may also be imported only in certain quantities or not at all.

Sugarcane is a plant from which sugar is extracted, namely cane sugar. Originally from East Asia, but from the 16th century, it was cultivated especially in the Caribbean. The biggest producers today are Brazil, India, China and Thailand.

Cyclones are tropical cyclones that occur in certain regions of the world. Such areas are the Indian Ocean and the southern Pacific. In other regions, such hurricanes are called hurricanes or typhoons.
