Dental supplementary insurance term: there are differences?

However, the duration varies considerably depending on the tariff and can be between one month and two years.

What is the term of an additional dental insurance?

After conclusion, many insurers provide for a minimum contract term in which the contract cannot be terminated. However, this term varies between the individual tariffs and can range from just one month (e.g. Ergo Direkt ZAB + ZBB + ZBE) to one year (e.g. Advigon Dental Health Special) up to two years (e.g. Allianz DentalBest). The duration of a tariff is therefore very unpredictable and should be checked before closing. In most cases, dental supplementary insurance policies with low benefit limits provide a long term in the beginning, while tariffs with strong restrictions require a rather short term.

After the minimum contract term has expired, the contract is automatically extended for another year at the end of an insurance year.

However, there is an exception to the minimum contract term for all tariffs. If the insurer increases the premium unscheduled, he must be entitled to his insured persons a four-week, extraordinary right of termination.

What are the advantages of a short-term dental insurance??

The advantages of a supplementary dental insurance with a short term are obvious. It can be canceled flexibly and without advance notice. If there is a problem with the insurance or the contribution seems too high, switching to another provider can be done easily.

There are disadvantages to short term insurance?

Most insurances with a short minimum contract term are otherwise covered in the beginning, so that an insured person cannot take expensive treatments and immediately terminates the contract afterwards. They usually reserve low benefits in the first few years or a longer waiting period.

What needs to be considered when canceling a dental supplementary insurance?

If an existing contract is to be terminated, the notice period must also be observed in addition to the minimum contract term. Before canceling or changing the tariff, you should first check whether a change is worthwhile at all, because saved retirement provisions and cheap contributions due to the age of entry will be lost in this case.

If cancellation should nevertheless take place, this is possible for the first time at the end of the minimum contract term with a notice period of usually three months at the end of the insurance year. Many insurers equate the insurance year with the calendar year, so the termination should take place every three months from December 31. After the minimum term has expired, termination is possible at the end of each insurance year.

Termination must be in writing. However, some providers do not recognize termination by email or fax as in writing, so that the postal route with registered mail is generally recommended. In this way, the customer has proof that the letter of termination was delivered on time.
