Desired child – heart child – nerve child: from rethinking and sleeping without a bed

Comments:

We had the experience, the bed was gone, the mattress was on the floor. It was a little too cold for our little daughter to sleep on and the mattress was moldy after 6 months. not enough air under the mattress? I would the right thing Recommend a floor bed without tinkering yourself, because the air must circulate properly under the bed. And when I lay down from time to time it was always cold on my head .. sorry, that’s just my opinion..

Even at the age of 14 to 19 I slept on the mattress on the floor (I didn’t want a bed in my room because I wanted to have a sofa in it but it was uncomfortable on the sofa bed, hence the mattress) without any rust or anything underneath the mattress. Carpet was underneath and I always lifted the mattress up for vacuuming. Turned every six months because there was a winter and summer page. My mattress was never moldy. Then you must have done something wrong.

I slept on a mattress on the floor (laminate) for years. With regular ventilation (set up for an hour or two, every few days) nothing is moldy.
And it wasn’t cold at all, on the contrary, now in bed (same room) I sometimes freeze more.
That is certainly also due to the premises.

I like the idea and I want to try it out too. However, I have my concerns that Onno will stay in his bed if we lay him down in the evening. Somehow I’m afraid that he would roll off the mattress and turn his room upside down or stand at the door and get out. And if he did then also should only play, will he find his way back to bed? I mean, he clearly knows where his bed is. But would he crawl back there if he thought he wanted to sleep now? It is from 12/26/12, a little over a year old.

I would be happy to hear what you think about how things are going with you!

I can only confirm that with the mold, it also happened with our play corner mattress. maybe your husband can conjure up a deep bed frame there;)
for us, the alternative to the floor bed is of course the family bed. here too the child can get up, crawl out and crawl in himself

Hi there
I did a little research on the internet and I found this environmentally friendly furniture factory, Montessori-style:
Woodly: http://www.woodly.it/eng/index.html

We don’t have a floor bed (I had that in a phase when I was 14 or 15 years old – without mold, but on carpet), but only a classic one "stalk"bed. However, we have added the cots on the left and right. Without bars on the inside of the bed and all mattresses are on one level. So our bed is a good 4m wide, everyone can cuddle with everyone, the smaller one can go left and right to the chest without my wife waking up great and in the morning I usually have my two mice on the left and right of my shoulder. I can only recommend that, because at the age of 10 and more they definitely don’t want to cuddle so well with the old.

The children’s room is and will remain the larger playroom for the next few years. Stop a room for kids.

But when the mattress is on a slatted frame, the air circulates well or not?

Yes it does.
Before last winter, we pulled out the cot again and cut off the legs so that it is still a floor bed, just now with the bed frame, i.e. the slatted frame underneath, and everything is wonderful.
But we never had any problems until the end with the mattress on the floor.
