Digital learning with tablet and computer is part of everyday life at school. Blackboard, overhead projector and notebook were yesterday. Computers and interactive whiteboards have long since moved into the classroom. So-called E-Learning or digital learning is spreading more and more. The schools are getting ready: better and more Internet connections in the classroom, tablets in the school desks, digital all-rounder panels behind the desk. Children and adolescents should practice dealing with modern media and digital technologies at an early age in order to be better prepared for their future in the world of life and work 2.0.
Digital learning and the “glassy” student
But e-learning or digital learning in schools not only offers opportunities, but also opportunities risks. Because in the online classroom electronic traces of students and teachers are logged. Critics complain about the lack of knowledge of the teachers in matters of cybersecurity, data protection and Co. Modern education technologies they want to be an integral part of the teacher training. If no one understands the responsible use of the media, the unintentional “glassy students” be created.
If not the teachers, then at least the students would have to learn better, what is technically running in the new media, experts demand. A basic understanding of how the data is processed and what the potentials of the analysis algorithms are could do much. Every student should be confronted with these issues during their school career.
Students want more computer science
The teenagers obviously do not mind. According to a representative survey of the market research institute Aris 75 percent of secondary school students like to study computer science as a compulsory subject. Only about one in twelve (8 percent) rejects this. At primary schools, the desire for computer science is particularly great: Here, 83 percent of students would like to have a compulsory subject, at grammar schools and secondary schools at least 73 percent.
Media education takes place very differently in the 16 federal states. Gesche Joost, Internet Ambassador of the German Federal Government, would like to have digital competences mediated integratively in the existing subjects. That is, as a part of subjects such as economics or technology. German eighth graders have in the international study ICIL, which has compared the computer skills in 24 states, a place in the midfield busy. Significantly further ahead are several Asian countries such as Japan or South Korea and the USA. There, e-learning is much more advanced.
