Documentation for the study trip to sweden from institute 3l – lifelong learning

For the fourth time the institute 3L led from 1st to 5th June 2015 a study trip to Sweden. As in the previous year, the focus was on "Inclusion in Swedish day care centers" with the aim of getting to know the work of daycare centers in Sweden under the focus of inclusive pedagogy.

The tour guide was Ms. Olga Gorovaia, who lived in Sweden for many years and worked in day-care centers, and Jana Juhran, director of the 3L Institute. Starting at Dresden Central Station in the early morning, the trip to Rostock went via Gedser – Helsingbor – Gothenburg to Ljungskile on Sweden’s west coast, which was reached in the late evening. The travelers already learned on the way useful information about Sweden and the Swedish Education System. The Swedish education plan for daycare centers was briefly introduced.

Tuesday started with a visit to Sunningevägens förskola in Uddevalla. It is a nursery run by Madilda Skolan in Uddevalla. The group exchanged views with the specialist advisor and the managing director. Independent sponsorship is still an exception in Sweden. Madilda Skolan is a sponsor who is committed to reggio-inspired pedagogy and, among other things, has made the professional exchange between Sweden and Reggio-Emilia the basis for the further development of their pedagogical work.

To support the participation of children with disabilities, every municipality in Sweden has a “habilitering center” in which doctors, social workers, therapists, nurses and psychologists work in a multi-professional team. Uddevalla’s “habilitering center” was visited on Tuesday afternoon. The aim of all interventions is to ensure that children participate in social life. Each case is individually advised and the necessary support is asked. The aim of the cooperation with the day care center is to enable the pedagogues to be accompanied by the child. A conversation with the head of the "habilitering center" followed by a guided tour of the rooms.

On Wednesday the trip led to the site of the World Heritage Museum in Vitlyke, where a kindergarten was built in 2007. The children are on the site of the Bronze Age village all day. The pedagogical focus is on the approach of experiencing nature and culture as a unit that shapes people. An archaeologist is available to the kindergarten every hour as a museum educator. The children have the opportunity to get to know archaeological work and to work in part. The facility is a vivid example of how the context of a Kita as Resource can be used for educational work. The kindergarten is one of three daycare centers in Tanumshede, in the afternoon the group visited a second location in the city.

Then the trip went via Grebbestadt to Fjällbacka – a small fishing town in which Ingr />

The last focus of the trip was Gothenburg on Thursday. The municipal day care center Solgätan opened the doors for the guests from Germany. After a conversation with the leader and the specialist adviser, the participants had time to observe the groups. After lunch, the teachers exchanged their observations again and the specialist adviser spoke about the experiences of the institution with observation and documentation. The inclusive approach is fundamental for the Swedish educators: it is not the children who have to adapt to the circumstances of the daycare but the educators have the task of creating the conditions for each child. There are corresponding support systems in the municipalities and regions.

A stroll through the city and evening meal in Gothenburg ended the day, the return trip to the hotel took place with the "water bus" (Älvsnabben) and the group was able to experience Gothenburg from the water at night.

The next trip to Sweden will be from 30.05. – 03.06.2016 take place, we are changing the route and will concentrate on southern Sweden. Title of the trip: "Observation, documentation and reflection of pedagogical processes in reggio-inspired pedagogy".
