TK-Safe: What is it?

TK-Safe enables insured persons to store and manage their health and illness data in a structured and clear manner in one place.

TK-Safe is a digital data vault that insured people can access anywhere, anytime using their smartphone via the TK app. Provided that the insured want to accept this offer, the use is voluntary and free.

So far, medical data is decentralized to doctors, hospitals, therapists or health insurance companies. Patients have to laboriously ask and gather their own data from various physicians. With TK-Safe, insured persons have direct access to their own medical information. Only the insured person himself has insight into the data and he determines whether he wants to enable this to a doctor for inspection.

In the health record, they can structure information such as the prescribed medication, vaccinations, diagnoses or X-ray images in a timeline fashion. The insured can decide on his own data, only he decides to whom he grants access.

What are the benefits of TK-Safe for insured persons?

Whether on vacation, moving to another city or changing doctors: with TK-Safe, insured persons have their medical data at hand at all times. So far, medical data is decentralized to doctors, hospitals, therapists or health insurance companies. The patients have no direct access to their own medical information and have to laboriously ask and collect X-rays and laboratory data from different doctors. With TK-Safe, insured persons can give their attending physician access to their medical information. For example, they can let their doctor know which medicines they are taking and which have already been prescribed in the past.

How come the data in TK-Safe?

Insured persons can have the billing data of their treatments available to the technician automatically transferred to their file: doctor visits, vaccinations and prescription drugs. In addition, they can make manual entries, upload PDFs, such as findings, or scan barcodes of drugs.

Who can see the stored data?

Data and transport routes in TK-Safe are encrypted end-to-end. This means that no one but the insured person can decrypt the data. Thus, only the insured person is able to see his data. The decryption of the data takes place on the user’s smartphone.

How do insureds get their data??

The eGA can be reached via the TK-App. The app can be downloaded for Android and iOS operating systems. For the use of the eG a separate registration takes place within the TK-App. A user account is set up and the individual encryption is activated. This ensures that only the insured can see, save and manage their own data. The storage of information is not on the smartphone, but on secure servers in Germany. Therefore, access to the data in the eGA is only possible with an active Internet connection.

How is the privacy ensured?

Access to the eGa is exclusively via the TK-App. This is coupled with a so-called two-factor authentication. One factor is registering the smartphone with a personal unlock code. The other factor is the login in the app with username and password. The eGA is backed up with the latest technical encryption methods. The data is encrypted content (end-to-end) stored on servers that are in Germany and thus fall under German data protection law. Specifically, this means that only the users themselves can read their data, since only they have the key. Neither TK nor IBM Deutschland GmbH can see the data. The decryption of the data takes place only on the smartphone. A new smartphone must be re-registered accordingly, to ensure that only the insured has access.
