Environmental and Resource Management: Study for the sake of the environment

Ecology, economics, resource management, environmental technology

Climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect – the horror scenarios are on everyone’s lips. The worst case would be prevented by an optimized and sustainable environmental and resource management. Graduates know how to reconcile economic benefits, technical progress and environmental protection.

What happens when the climate on the planet continues to warm? The future forecasts for the earth are not very pleasing. The glaciers are melting due to the rising temperatures and large areas of land would be completely flooded. Other areas, such as Africa, would struggle with drought that would plunge the already plagued continent into catastrophic conditions.

Climate change costs humankind tons of money

Prospective students who find this topic exciting and feel called upon to develop trend-setting systems will find an interesting training opportunity in the study program Environmental and Resource Management. In order to solve today’s and tomorrow’s environmental problems, it is important to acquire knowledge in science subjects – especially methods of system analysis, modeling, geographic information systems (GIS) and data management. How management concepts can be developed is also part of the know-how of the environmental and resource managers.

For example, the Bachelor of Environmental and Resource Management at the TU Cottbus is internationally oriented – the main language of instruction is English. The basics are taught in the fields of ecology, economics and resource management as well as environmental technology. Since this is an international degree program, the bachelor program includes a semester abroad at one of the partner universities (including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Slovenia and South Africa) as part of the study program. If you want to do the master’s degree, spend a second semester abroad.

With a degree in Environmental and Resource Management, diverse professional activities are conceivable. The acquired skills in environmental sciences, environmental planning, environmental management and environmental engineering enable us to assess, evaluate and control environmentally relevant technological, economic and infrastructural processes.

This is a requirement profile that would apply to senior positions in an international company in the field of energy or environmental technology. Employment opportunities also exist in engineering firms, waste management companies, environmental and regulatory authorities and environmental protection organizations.
