What should you pay attention to when traveling with children??

Regular trips with the children are important – because they are not only fun, they also strengthen the sense of community within the family. New things can be explored and discovered and shared experiences weld even closer together; in addition, people like to remember the different activities. In order for the trip to be an unforgettable experience, a few things should be considered in advance.

Plan trips with children correctly: think of everyone’s needs

Good and well thought-out planning is always an advantage, since the excursion should be as smooth as possible. First of all, it says in the room where the excursion should go. It is crucial to choose an age-appropriate destination; in the best case scenario, the children have fun and at the same time are required to absorb and process all the impressions – this ensures that there is no boredom and time flies by. By the way, parents should not miss out either, their needs should not be forgotten when planning the trip either. Ideally, the excursion offers parents the opportunity to relax while the children are busy – for example, to have a cup of coffee. Appropriate gastronomic offers (café, beer garden etc.) on site are definitely an advantage for adults.

provisions & Co.

Of course, you should also consider how much time the trip should take. After that, the preparation of provisions is based. Children often get hungry on the go, even though they haven’t been driving for long. So a few snacks in the form of fruit, cookies, etc. should be packed. The question of whether something is eaten locally in a restaurant or beer garden also plays an important role. In the latter case, significantly more provisions have to be prepared, such as sandwiches, sandwiches, carrots, tomatoes, cucumber slices, cereal bars, etc. If in doubt, take a little more with you, because children often develop an amazing appetite on excursions. Regular drinking is also very important. Because the kids often have an amazing urge to move on excursions and forget to drink enough because of the urge to discover. Therefore, remind your offspring from time to time to drink enough. Of course, the best way to consume healthy drinks, such as water, tea or juice spritzers. Lemonade is less suitable because it not only contains a lot of sugar, but does not really quench your thirst. When you pack drinks, you should think of special drinking bottles with integrated leakage protection for small children.

Well armed with the right equipment

For a successful excursion with the whole family, the right equipment is the be-all and end-all. This depends on the one hand on the destination; If you want to go to the mountains, it is recommended to wear sturdy shoes and adequate sun protection (headgear, sunglasses, sunscreen if necessary), especially for small children, as the intensity of UV radiation at high altitudes is often underestimated. In general, the choice of clothing should be adapted to the current weather situation. If the weather is mixed, rain jacket and umbrella should be packed in any case. If the trip takes place in summer weather, it can of course be airy clothes (if you go to the sea or to the outdoor pool, an anti-mosquito spray should not be forgotten in addition to sun milk), a thin jacket can still not hurt, because in wind or it can still get cool in the evenings. If babies or toddlers are on the excursion, there is of course a lot more to think about, such as diapers, baby food, bottle warmers, change clothes, etc.

The right equipment also includes – very importantly – a compact first aid kit, because small injuries can always happen on the way. In addition to adhesive plasters in several sizes and small scissors, a pair of disposable gloves should be placed in the first aid bag (they protect against cuts and bacteria from other germs), disinfectant spray, if necessary. Arnica globules, compresses, bandages and bandages are packed. So well equipped, nothing can go wrong – even if there are minor injuries such as grazes etc..

Also remember to keep your children busy on the way to the destination. If you are not going to use bicycles, but are planning a (longer) car ride, you should take a few toys with you on the way to avoid boredom – grumbling and grumbling children are extremely annoying. Depending on your individual preference, picture books, a painting set, a puzzle block, an MP3 player including headphones, with the fairy tale or the like are suitable as utensils for employment. Can be listened to, etc. Of course, games with the adults are also possible as a pastime, such as "I see something you don’t see .." or "Guess license plate".

Which excursion destinations are particularly worthwhile for families with children?

As already mentioned, a trip with children should be based on their age, but of course the parents should also get their money’s worth. Depending on how the individual ideas and interests are structured, there are a lot of possible excursion destinations. If you are looking for action and fun, amusement parks are of course the first choice (there are various options for different age groups, such as fairytale and toddler parks versus adventure parks with many rides). For those who value that the little ones acquire knowledge in a playful way, museums are an excellent opportunity – even adults can sometimes learn a lot there. Guided tours of the castle and castle (particularly exciting for the children is a visit to the torture chamber and dungeon) are a good idea for excursions.

If you are interested in wildlife, you cannot miss a visit to the zoo. Due to the concept of a petting zoo, playground and beer garden, zoos are rightly one of the most popular destinations for family outings.

In general, nature also has a lot to offer; For example, mountain hikes can be very interesting as a trip with children. In the Alpine and low mountain range there are often offers such as climbing forests and high ropes courses that are aimed at families with older children. Summer toboggan runs are also popular in this context. You can also have a lot of fun at lakes – in addition to paddling and swimming in warm weather, trips by pedal boat or canoe are also popular with families.

What to do in rainy weather?

Unfortunately, it happens regularly that the weather literally "spills" the planned excursion outdoors. But there are definitely excursion destinations that are suitable for the whole family, especially in bad weather. A visit to the museum is a classic. The density of museums designed for families with children is high in Germany. From the toy and doll museum to the traffic museum to natural history facilities – to name just a few examples – there is something for all age groups and for both girls and boys.

A classic in rainy weather is of course going to the cinema. In larger cinemas, the program is designed so that different films for children are shown almost every day on several dates. Many cinemas also offer cinema days for families, often with a colorful supporting program such as children’s ham. In addition, no advertising is often shown in front of the films and the volume is reduced for small cinema-goers.

Another popular option is a visit to the swimming pool, where both small and large water lovers will get their money’s worth. Whether indoor pool, family and fun pool or thermal bath, the selection is correspondingly large. If you don’t feel like a swimming pool or museum, there is an option in larger cities to visit an all-weather zoo, which – as the name suggests – can offer its visitors a lot even in bad weather.

Trips with children for little money

Trips with children can be expensive fun. Stays in amusement parks in particular, but also in zoos, can be really expensive. But excursions do not always have to go into the money, there are certainly options that save your wallet. In good weather, for example, a visit to an adventure playground or a city park is recommended. This excursion can then be perfectly combined with a picnic on the green meadow. A picnic basket with delicious things like sandwiches, fresh fruit, muffins etc. will make all children’s hearts beat faster. To pass the time, play equipment such as soccer, badminton rackets, bocce balls, etc. can also be taken. Children also enjoy simple games such as catching and hiding with their parents.

Excursions such as bicycle tours (for example, again with an integrated picnic) or a visit to a mini golf course are not very expensive. Children can also enjoy a walk on a forest adventure trail – there is not only a lot to discover here, but also interesting facts about nature.

In bad weather, you can consider going to the swimming pool, cinema or museum. All of these facilities regularly offer promotions, such as a family day with reduced admission prices – you can also save a lot here.

Excursions with children including overnight stays

It is of course a special experience for the family if the trip is combined with an overnight stay. Many German amusement parks now offer this option. But it is also possible to combine the excursion with a city trip in order to discover as much as possible on site, regardless of whether visiting the zoo and museum, etc. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay, there are youth hostels. There are family rooms with several beds. Another option is, of course, an overnight stay in a guest house or in a hotel.

If an excursion with an overnight stay is desired, a little more planning and preparation is of course necessary in advance. What should be on the program? Do all family members get their money’s worth? How much clothing and provisions do I have to pack? How much total budget do I want to plan for the trip including accommodation costs? These are just a few of the questions that should be carefully considered before departure.

But when the organizational preparations finally start, everyone is looking forward to it all the more. Because a trip with children including overnight stays is often an unforgettable experience for everyone involved
