The Baltic Sea at a glance

Off to the coast!

Fantastic beaches, clean sea, picturesque holiday resorts and weather that is better than its reputation: a family holiday on the Baltic Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein and the maritime regions of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not so popular with its visitors for nothing. Numerous activities on land and on water ensure that both adults and children feel equally comfortable. Because a family vacation on the Baltic Sea not only stands for lounging in a beach chair, but also offers you kilometers of bike paths, beach pools and amusement parks that are spread over the region and ensure that you and your children do not get bored during your vacation on the Baltic Sea!

Maritime atmosphere

You get a great holiday feeling everywhere on the Baltic Sea and can look forward to a family holiday shaped by the sea with your children. If you are already enthusiastic about the maritime atmosphere on the mainland, then you can really look forward to a vacation on one of the Baltic Sea islands. Rügen, the largest and most famous island, attracts countless visitors every year. Things are peaceful in Usedom and the world is just fine on the small islands like Hiddensee! The coastal towns of Boltenhagen, Warnemünde, Kühlungsborn and Co. have a very special flair. The old house facades in different colors, modernly arranged, shine with the competition. The sound of the sea, sand between your toes, the sound of the wind and the chirping of seagulls make your family vacation on the Baltic Sea coast a unique experience.

And even with active day trips, the sea is often not far away. The Hansa Park offers you and your children an exciting and varied day and is located directly on the sea. From the roller coaster, you can certainly see the sea perfectly before screeching back towards the bottom! With Adventure Golf on Fehmarn you are right on the sea and cycling and hiking tours through the beautiful nature are also on offer. Whether family vacation or short vacation on the Baltic Sea, the whole family will have a good time here!

Come on, let’s discover the Baltic Sea!

The Baltic Sea can offer you a wide range of leisure activities, but is also the ideal place to simply take a break from everyday life and relax. A maritime flair awaits you and your children on the Baltic Sea. You can spend your days relaxing in the beach chair or you can go for a walk in one of the various marinas and admire the ships at anchor. In addition, of course, the islands in particular attract a lot of leisure time fun: on Rügen and Usedom you can of course, in addition to bike and hiking tours through the idyllic landscape, also spend a great beach holiday with your children on the Baltic Sea!

Germany’s largest island

Plan your family vacation this year at home: the first port of call, if you want a beach vacation, is Germany’s largest island of Rügen. The islands of Rügen are located in the Baltic Sea and are best known for their coastal and beach landscapes as well as for their chalk cliffs. The most famous stretch of coast is probably the Königsstuhl, which presents itself to you in an impressive manner and is best viewed from one of the neighboring chalk cliffs. You should definitely take a walk along the cliffs to get a first impression of the beautiful landscape of the island. The island is characterized by green hills, thatched houses and a rugged coastline lined with bays and headlands. Cyclists and hikers in particular get their money’s worth here in every season. In summer the whole family can relax while bathing, especially Binz is a popular community and offers you enough water fun with the children in the largest seaside resort on the island. For an exciting excursion with the children, you can also integrate a visit to the dinosaur country into your vacation planning – an adventure in the Stone Age will certainly not be forgotten by the kids so quickly!

Peace and fresh air

You can also spend a relaxing holiday on the island on Germany’s second largest island, Usedom. The island is located in the southern Baltic Sea and, for the most part, belongs to Germany, but in fact its eastern part is already on Polish territory. Tourism on the island concentrates primarily on the traditional imperial baths. The Imperial Baths are located in Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin and can guarantee you a cozy day at the sea. Relax in one of the many beach chairs and enjoy the cultural offer and the impressive spa architecture. A special highlight are the pier, which are located at the imperial baths. During your vacation on the Baltic Sea you should stroll along at least one of the bridges with your children. On the pier you have the opportunity to walk far into the sea – the longest of them measures over 500 meters. If the weather makes a spanner in the works so that you cannot spend your day on the beach, then you should keep in mind the Ostsee-Therme Usedom. Here you can schedule a relaxing indoor bathing day. Large pools, small slides, a water garden for the kids and a separate baby pool ensure that every little water rat can spend a great day.

A diverse break

If relaxation and water fun alone are not enough for you during a vacation with the children, you should consider Fehmarn, another of the Baltic islands, as a travel destination. Here you can of course relax by the sea and play with the children in the water and sand, but there are also some exciting activities waiting for you and your offspring. Together, you can learn more about the sea and its inhabitants by taking a trip to the Fehmarn marine center. Admire the colorful underwater world on a walk through the underwater tunnel or in the area with a tropical aquarium. After all, family vacations on the Baltic Sea should be varied and fun for all family members! You can absorb even more knowledge with your kids in the Galileo knowledge world. Three different museums with active and interactive exhibitions ensure that the youngsters learn something new about natural history, technology and overseas. You can also have fun with your children on the Adventure Golf course, which promises an active day with 18 lanes: the best thing is that you always have the Baltic Sea in view!

Along the Baltic coast

If you prefer to stay on the mainland during your family vacation, you will find various options on the Baltic Sea coast. Stralsund is a wonderful place for your family vacation on the Baltic Sea – a true pearl on the Baltic Sea coast! In addition to picturesque old buildings, the Hanseatic city has a handsome marina for strolling, but also offers various options for spending your free time with the family. A good idea would be a visit to the Ozeaneum, for example, because there is an exciting program waiting for the little marine biologists! But Rostock is also ideal for a family holiday, because the Warnemünde district has the widest sandy beach in the entire region. The good infrastructure and location in the middle of various excursion destinations are also a reason for spending the holidays here. In the immediate vicinity there are, for example, two indoor playgrounds where the kids can run around. Decide for yourself whether you would prefer to go to the Pandino children’s play world or the children’s area with the kids. A lot of fun awaits you in the Rostock Zoo – the children will be amazed by the variety! A family vacation on the Baltic Sea is really always a good idea and the location of the Baltic Sea makes it ideal for a short vacation with the family!

In the far north

The Hanseatic city of Lübeck is in the north and also invites you to an extensive holiday. The Baltic Sea resort of Travemünde in particular is a popular travel destination for a holiday in the north of Germany. The beautiful beach creates a relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing. But in the summer the beach can be very populated, but offers plenty of fun for the little ones, especially in the warm season. If you would like to explore the area by bike, you will find a particularly attractive environment in the neighboring Holstein Switzerland, in which there are various sights to discover in addition to unspoiled nature. You need just under an hour to make a day trip to the nature park, where you can also explore nature by bike or canoe or kayak. By the way, the many charming towns in the area provide variety on vacation almost every weekend with their town festivals.

The beaches of the Baltic Sea

Of course, you can also make the exact travel destination for your family vacation on the Baltic Sea dependent on your favorite stretch of beach. The beach in Travemünde is particularly family-friendly, because of its peculiarities for the family’s four-legged friend it is one more reason to take at least a short vacation on the Baltic Sea. Here you will find the only bathing jetty for dogs in Germany. The beach in Warnemünde is also particularly appealing to tourists, as every family member can have a great time here: relax in the beach chair, play with the kids in the sand, play sports and be happy about yours Fur nose can always be there. But if you really want to spend a holiday with the children on one of the Baltic islands, the beach in Sellin on Rügen is one of the most beautiful. The lively sandy beach shines with an extensive all-round package, from a great children’s program that can be used to a lively waterfront, where you can find restaurants and cafés, as well as some shops and let the day end comfortably. It is also active on the beautiful beach in Heringsdorf on Usedom. From volleyball to stand-up paddling, the program includes a wide range of activities that are fun for the whole family. The south beach on Fehmarn is one of the tourist centers. Families get their money’s worth here, especially in high season, parents can look forward to lifeguards who also have an eye on the beach. You can spend a nice beach holiday with your children almost anywhere on the Baltic Sea!

Leisure fun galore

The far north is packed with leisure activities, which will not make it easy for you, as your children will definitely want to try everything out.
