Relaxed on the beach

Anyone planning a family trip to Fuerteventura will probably have one thing in mind: summer, sun, beach and sea! Numerous beaches await you on the Canary Island, where you and your children can splash around in sand castles and in the waves. One of them is Playa Jandia, which can be found on the peninsula of the same name in the south. A very special sight is the Playa Risco del Paso, whose landscape changes with the tides: While an endless sandy landscape awaits you at low tide, the beach turns into a beautiful and above all flat water landscape thanks to the lagoon at high tide. Even if you don’t feel safe on the wave boards, you can quickly find a remedy: There are many surf schools that offer courses for beginners and advanced surfers!

Sand in bulk

If you can’t get enough of the sand, you shouldn’t miss the El Jable desert landscape. The extensive hiking dunes, which are in constant motion, belong to the Parque Natural de Corralejo nature reserve. A very special natural spectacle occurs when the wind blows particularly strongly: Then the sand is whipped across the road that leads from Corralejo to Puerto del Rosario.

If you drive this road all the way to Corralejo, you will arrive in the largest tourist resort in the north of Fuerteventura. If you are not spending your vacation with the children here, a trip is worthwhile: In addition to a colorful leisure program and a dazzling nightlife, the town also has a historic city center to offer. Stroll through the narrow streets and enjoy the view of the island of Los Lobos from the harbor – an excursion here could also be on your holiday program with the family!

The resort of El Castillo is also worth a visit. The name comes from the old fortifications from 1740. There is only one tower left of the complex today – take a look at it and imagine together with the children what life must have been like here.

On the trail of the pirates

A very special adventure awaits you in the Cuevas de Ajuy, the historical pirate caves on Fuerteventura. They are considered contemporary witnesses to piracy and at the same time are a fascinating natural spectacle. But not only the caves are adventurous, it is also the way there: over the beach at Ajuy, too "dead beach" is called and once served as a landing site for pirate ships, you can reach along the cliffs "Caleta Negra", the black bay. From here a steep staircase leads down to the pirate caves.

Great water fun

A huge pleasure for them whole family is certainly a trip to the Aqua Park in Corralejo. In addition to a raging river and a wave pool, there are also some slides that you can whiz down with the children. A trip to the zoo is also great fun "Oasis Park" in the south of the island. Here you can expect not only around 250 different animal species, but also around 28,000 cacti. A totally unforgettable memory of your family vacation on Fuerteventura will certainly be the camel rides that are offered here.

Your family’s animal lovers come also at your expense when visiting the turtle breeding station. This can be found in Morro Jable and takes care of the resettlement of sea turtles in local waters. But even if you have not had enough water fun so far, we have another tip for you: The Baku Water Park welcomes small and large water rats with a total of three theme parks. A highlight is undoubtedly the possibility to swim with sharks.

Culinary highlights

With so much action, only one thing is missing to make the vacation day on the island perfect: the tasty food typical of Fuerteventura. The Canary Island impresses with its simple cuisine, where fish and meat dishes are served. To top it all off, there is something that children will be particularly looking forward to: dessert. Typical of the island is the flan, a kind of custard with caramel sauce.
