Rental cars simplify your stay and make exploring the entire island possible – your vacation in Gran Canaria will be unforgettable!

Fun for the mini vacationers

Since especially the kids should feel comfortable on a family vacation in Gran Canaria, we have a few tips on how you can offer your children an exciting vacation day. So how about a family trip to the western town of Sioux City, for example? This is a little further south on the island, but is easily accessible by car. The western town offers you exciting shows with cowboys and Indians and you can visit the saloon – what is particularly exciting is that you and your kids can also experience real rattlesnakes up close.

If things are a little quieter, the best thing to do is to visit Palmitos Park in Maspalomas. The zoo is ideal for the whole family, for example you can admire various reptiles, see the aquarium and the dolphinarium or watch colorful and exotic birds such as parrots. You can also see unusual species such as the Gran Canaria blue finch here. It only gets more exciting on the donkey farm Donkey Safari Las Tirajanas, where you can go horseback riding in the nature with your children. But if your kids are little water rats, you should take a trip to Aqualand Maspalomas, because there are a variety of water slides waiting for you. A children’s paradise rounds off the stay even for the youngest children!

The wonders of nature

The diversity of nature and our earth can be seen in just a few square kilometers on Gran Canaria. From a great environment in the forest and nature reserves, over the mountain landscapes and the volcanic cone of the Roque Nublo, to the impressive dune landscapes, everything is there that makes for a varied and eventful family holiday in Gran Canaria. Because of this diversity, you can choose from many exciting excursion destinations. Nature lovers should visit the botanical garden a few kilometers from the capital. Travelers who want to get an impression of the desert should definitely visit the dunes of Maspalomas. This is often compared to the Sahara, because the landscape of the nature reserve is reminiscent of the well-known desert and is an impressive photo opportunity. An equally interesting excursion is a visit to the Cenobio de Valéron, which are granaries made of volcanic rock that were used by the island’s indigenous people. The silos are distributed in the walls and various galleries lead to the inside of the mountain. You can also spend a special day in Las Salinas de Agaete – the natural pools are a unique experience for young and old and are protected by rocks the open Sea. The sea water pools are special and there is also a play area for the kids. If you prefer to go on a discovery tour at sea or under water, Gran Canaria is the right place for you. During the holidays on the Canary Island you can look forward to worthwhile boat and diving trips. If you are lucky, you may even spot dolphins during one of the tours – it could hardly be better!

A hiking paradise

The Tamadaba Nature Park is a wonderful hiking region, which impresses with its landscape of forest, mountains and smaller lakes. From a 45 meter high mountain peak you can get down to the coast here. The nature park is located in an area declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO and is also ideal for vacationing with your children. Take a look at the beautiful landscape of Gran Canaria from above and enjoy an idyllic picnic together. For nature lovers there is even the possibility to spend a night in the nature park, because you will also find a campsite here. Another nice area to explore the local flora and fauna is the Area Recreation de La Laguna, which also has many hiking trails and various paths that are perfect for the whole family. In the center of Gran Canaria there is also the Pico de las Nieves, the highest point on the island. In good weather you have an incredible view and if you don’t feel like walking the distance, you can even reach the highest point of the island by car – during a vacation with children a convenient way to integrate all the natural highlights into the family vacation in Gran Canaria.

Visit Las Palmas

A visit to the island’s capital, Gran Canaria, should also be part of the family vacation. In the old town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria it will be particularly easy for you to discover something worth seeing. The old town is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List: magnificent buildings are lined up here, including the most famous building, the Santa Ana Cathedral. Behind the cathedral is the Casa de Colon, in which a museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus is set up. In this way you can learn something about the history and culture of Gran Canaria while sightseeing on a family holiday. A visit to the Poema del Mar Aquarium is particularly exciting for the kids: hundreds of different sea creatures are housed in the huge pools.

Enjoy beach days

Gran Canaria’s length of coast is about 236 kilometers and offers you various great beaches on family holidays, which are ideal for holidays with the children. On the Playa de las Burras beach you can play with your kids in the water, because due to the rocks bordering the bay, the waves are very light. The neighboring Playa del Inglés beach is just as beautiful, however. This is close to the dune landscape and offers you a wonderful atmosphere, especially at sunset! Protected from the wind and the waves is also the Playa de Puerto Rico, which looks almost Caribbean. Sports activities are also very important on this beach. Jet skiing, sailing and beach volleyball are just a few examples. At Playa de Puerto Rico, lifeguards guard the beach and the sea, which also makes families traveling with small children feel better. Rent umbrellas for a fee – nothing is missing here; and so vacationers can enjoy the turquoise sea to the fullest!
