Come on, let’s discover Austria!

Family holidays in Austria are always a good idea: from winter sports in the mountains to summer bathing holidays on one of the clear lakes, every season scores with its very own advantages – so you can design your holiday as you wish and look forward to a varied holiday! Holiday guests especially appreciate the optimal infrastructure, the high level of comfort of the accommodations and the fair price level. The latter also ensures that holidays in the Alpine Republic are still affordable even if you are traveling with the whole family. Because of these arguments, holiday apartments in Austria are also very popular and provide a private flair as well as sufficient space for all family members and daily planning according to your own schedule. Regardless of whether you are on a short holiday in Austria, planning an active holiday with the children or wanting to spend your family holiday on the slopes in winter, Austria always has the right ambience for you!

Sniff city air

For a city trip or a short vacation to the neighboring country, the city of Vienna is the ideal place. Vienna is the vibrant capital of Austria and still testifies to the splendor of the Habsburg monarchy in many places. Magnificent buildings line the squares of the city and an almost endless cultural program attracts millions of visitors to the Danube metropolis every year. In addition to the art-historical exhibitions, the famous museum area also houses the interactive Zoom experience museum, where children not only learn a lot, but can also do their own art. A visit to Schönbrunn Palace is also full of culture and art: in addition to insights into the Habsburg history, the palace and palace gardens, families who go on a discovery tour with their children are well catered for! The castle offers little tourists a special children’s museum, for real explorers also a labyrinth, in the middle of which a viewing platform wants to be conquered, and the labyrinth icon playground, which invites all ages to romp around – culture and history excitingly combined! The Tiergarten Schönbrunn, which is the oldest zoo in the world, also provides animal fun. The diversity of animal species will not only impress your offspring! Another highlight is a visit to the amusement park in the Vienna Prater with its partly nostalgic and partly rapid attractions, should you not miss out on a family trip to Vienna!

>In the south of Austria is the Carinthia region, which is characterized by a particularly idyllic setting: traditional life still shapes everyday life here in many places and offers the perfect conditions to relax in the midst of beautiful nature. The stunning backdrop of the Alps invites you to spend as much time as possible outdoors with your children and explore Austria. How about a detour to Velden, a small but fine health resort right on Lake Wörthersee? Lake Wörthersee is the largest in the region and is also one of the warmest alpine lakes. It is not only suitable for bathing, but also has a bambini promenade ready for the youngsters to count on an age-appropriate program. A visit to Hermagor and Lake Pressegger is also always exciting, as it has a great lido and an adventure park that ensures a wild and action-packed stay. Also located in Carinthia, is Europe’s first "baby village" Trebesing, which focuses on the smallest guests and their parents with a special offer. Whichever place you choose, nature is waiting to be explored by you!

In Styria too, people are happy when you spend your holiday with the family in the southern region of Austria, which is why you will feel at home right from the start. The rural character of the villages in the Mur valley or around Schladmig alternates with sophisticated splendor as in Graz, so that you can rely on sufficient variety. Go hiking, cycling or swimming in the Mur Valley or explore the historic old town while shopping and strolling around.

The northern realms

For a quick and easy family vacation in Austria, both Tyrol and the Salzburg region are the easiest to reach from Germany. Tyrol is particularly suitable for family vacations and has long been at the top of the list of the most popular destinations in Austria. During the cold season, it is primarily known for its almost endless slopes and après-ski culture in Kitzbühel and St. Johann. But also in the summer between May and September it offers excellent leisure options for holidays: cycling tours, summer tobogganing, such as on the summer toboggan run in Lermoos, and hikes along the many educational trails, such as in Waidring or Wildschönau, are particularly popular with families. In the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, the kids of the Innsbruck Alpine Zoo are waiting for you and you can admire a unique panoramic view of the city from the Hafelekar, which you can reach with the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen from Innsbruck’s old town. Your family vacation in Austria will be incredibly diverse and therefore unforgettable!

The Salzburg region with its beautiful capital Salzburg can also be reached quickly from Germany. Around the city, families will find action-packed entertainment options such as the Anif climbing park or the amusement park in Strasswalchen near Upper Austria. Salzburg itself is primarily known as the city of Mozart, which is why you can of course visit the birthplace of Mozart. You also have the opportunity to visit Mirabell Palace and the Mirabellen Gardens – the beautiful scenery enchants visitors large and small. The Salzburg area also has a lot to offer: you have the opportunity to get a breathtaking view of the alpine landscape. At just over 3,000 meters above sea level, you have an incredible view from the Gipfelwelt 3000 over the Kitzsteinhorn and the mountains of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Enjoy this spectacle in summer or winter!

More of nature

Spend your and your family’s vacation in Austria there are many nature experiences that should be on your to-do list. A detour to Lake Hallstatt is especially nice in summer during a children’s holiday. The lake is characterized by its size and is ideal for water fun with the kids, because there are various beach pools and swimming opportunities around them. Of course, you can also explore the lake by kayak, it only gets more exciting when canyoning in the Salzkammergut – an experience that is ideal for a family trip and so no one forgets quickly. Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt can also be admired from the Hallstatt Skywalk “World Heritage View”.

If you want to go even higher and tolerate a little adrenaline rush, then you have to go up to the 5fingers viewing platform, which is located 400 meters above the abyss and provides five nerve-racking moments with five different footbridges. Your hike there is peppered with interesting information boards on the nature of the region. An adventure hike that you shouldn’t miss on a family holiday in Austria! The Tux adventure trail, on the other hand, is also specially designed for the small children of the family and ensures that the kids get to know nature through various play and adventure stations on vacation. Perfect to keep your little hikers happy in Austria! The wild water hiking trails are also a great family-friendly hiking experience. Follow the Talbach in different sections into the valley and let yourself be inspired by the wild nature, it is less strenuous on the hiking trail suitable for prams, which is also prepared with lots of informative information and passes on the story to children and is also equipped with play options. Holidays in the mountains for young and old!

Winter sports highlights

Austria not only attracts winter sports enthusiasts to the snow in winter, but also has a large program ready for your family vacation. That is why you can look forward to ski schools for the little ski racers in many places in Austria and a supporting program is also part of the offer in many places, so that the holiday with the children is a relaxing break in Austria even in winter. The Nauders-Bergkastel ski area is popular, for example, which has a ski kindergarten and a playground as well as a toboggan run – fun for the whole family is guaranteed! You can find similar conditions and outdoor slopes in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area, the Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area, the Schlick 2000 ski area in the Stubai Valley or the St. Johann ski area in the Kitzbühel Alps. Toboggan together for a bet, watch the progress of the kids on skis or simply build a snowman together, so your family vacation in Austria is something very special even in winter and is not boring for any family member!
