Denmark at a glance

>Denmark is the perfect destination for a family vacation. In Denmark you can look forward to untouched nature, sleepy fishing villages, clear lakes and lonely beaches, as well as to the big city flair in Copenhagen. Denmark is truly unique as a travel destination if you want to spend a holiday in an idyllic setting with your children. Except for the capital Copenhagen, the country is mainly characterized by manageable small towns that hide in the middle of heathland and forests. Due to the lush nature, spring and summer are particularly suitable for a family holiday in Denmark, but also in winter there are various outdoor activities. The decision for a family vacation in Denmark should therefore not be difficult, after all, the little ones in particular prefer to let off steam outdoors!

And for an independent stay in Denmark you can rent a holiday home for your vacation almost anywhere. Experience your family break according to your ideas and experience new and exciting adventures and experiences together!

Discover the mainland

The Danish mainland can be roughly divided according to the cardinal points. One of the most exciting places in South Jutland is Ribe, one of the oldest cities in the country and, thanks to its wonderful flair, worth more than just a walk. Here you can read the history of the region from the churches and houses, while nature lovers especially enjoy the wonderful location directly on the Wadden Sea. Your stay in Ribe will be rounded off by a visit to the local Viking Museum – an educational and exciting experience, especially for children. Northern Jutland, in turn, captivates with its maritime flair: Aalborg and Frederikshavn are characterized by their location by the sea and so, for example, the Aalborg Museum is all about the rough seas. West Jutland is also particularly attractive for its beautiful nature and sea, while East Jutland shines with a wide range of leisure activities including zoos and amusement parks.

The big city

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and not only worth seeing because it is the cultural center of the country. The city invites you to stroll and shop with its impressive pedestrian zone and shopping street, and also scores with the country’s seat of government as well as the royal palace, a variety of museums and special architectural highlights. Spend your family vacation in the Danish capital, you can reach all important sights on foot or by bike. There are also many children’s hotels in Copenhagen that ensure that you spend a relaxing time in Denmark.

Take a look at Amalienborg Palace and watch the changing of the guard. You and your kids will be impressed with the procedure. Another building worth seeing is Rosenborg Castle, where you can admire the beautiful rose garden in summer or view the crown jewels of the royal family. A visit to the Nyhavn harbor, where a number of colorful houses await you, is particularly nice. An incredibly beautiful atmosphere. Your path also carries out the town past the little mermaid, which was made from the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. For modern architecture, however, you should rather take a look at the Copenhagen Opera House. So that your vacation with the children is not too boring for the young, you will find the Tivoli in Denmark’s capital. The Tivoli is located directly opposite the main train station and is one of the most famous amusement parks. The park is one of the oldest existing amusement parks and has an exciting attraction for every family member.

Watch out island explorers

In addition to the mainland, Denmark also offers an extensive program for your family vacation on its islands. In Bornholm you can even spend a sun-drenched holiday on the beach, which is rather untypical for Denmark, including swimming fun. In midsummer you can expect a pleasant 20 degrees, so you can still enjoy the healthy Baltic air better to be able to enjoy. It gets warmest in Dueodde on the southern tip of the island, but Balka is also a very popular destination for all those who spend their family vacation on Bornholm. There are numerous shops, restaurants and playgrounds all around.

On Zealand, Denmark’s largest island, it is mainly the beaches that convince a large number of visitors every year to spend their holidays here. The child-friendly access to the sea makes places such as Frölunde Fet, Greve or Stillinge particularly suitable for families. One of the attractions that are especially aimed at young guests is the Bakken amusement park in Klampenborg. This is just under half an hour from Copenhagen and provides a wide range of entertainment.

The island of Funen can be reached by car thanks to a sophisticated bridge and tunnel construction. The picturesque island offers you a particularly cozy atmosphere with its typical Nordic flair retreat, that combines calmness with varied experiences. On Funen, children should not miss a visit to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense. So that it is not just a visit to a museum, you can also visit Funky Monkey Park, the largest climbing park in Denmark, or go to the zoological garden in Odense.

The Danish Riviera

The Danish Riviera means the beaches of Zealand, which are not far from the capital Copenhagen. Here you can go fishing, go for a walk in the dunes with your dog or swim in the sea with the kids. The Ellinge Lyng beach in Sejerø Bay is particularly child and dog friendly. The shallow water invites you to splash around carefree and the four-legged friend does not have to be excluded because he can be on the leash with the beach. The largest and most popular beach in the north of Zealand is Hornæk Beach. The wide and fine sandy beach is the ideal place to enjoy a break with the family. Lifeguards keep an eye on what is going on and a beach playground ensures variety of water fun.

You will also find what you are looking for on family-friendly beaches on Funen. One of the most beautiful beaches is the beach at Nyborg, which will impress you with fine sand and clean water. In summer, lifeguards also pay attention to what is going on here, which makes the beach particularly suitable for a sunny day with the kids.
