Family vacation in mecklenburg-western pomerania – traveling with children

Travel with children to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The beautiful state of Meck-Pomm ranges from the state capital of Schwerin via Waren an der Müritz, Stralsund and the 3 islands of Hiddensee, Rügen and Usedom to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The Baltic Sea coast with its beaches and bathing spots, the mild climate and the many leisure activities is wonderful for families traveling. For family trips, the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on the Baltic Sea, but also the three imperial baths of Ahlbeck, Bansin and Heringsdorf with their kilometer-long beach promenades and the impressively beautiful spa architecture. The lighthouse in Warnemünde, the Sellin bridges on Rügen and in Heringsdorf, the beach in Kühlungsborn are highlights on the Baltic Sea that you must see. And of course the famous chalk cliffs that already inspired Caspar Friedrich David. Particularly romantic in the sunset!

Maritime and historical from Schwerin to Stralsund

But Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is of course not just the Baltic Sea coast. The state capital Schwerin with the Fairytale castle and the cathedral is delightful for strolling and sightseeing. In Stralsund, maritime flair mixes with jewels of North German brick Gothic, particularly beautiful on the Rathausplatz with the town hall and the 14th century Wulflamhaus. By the way, in the Wulflam parlors you can eat good plain food. It gets maritime further down at the harbor, in the really recommendable Ozeaneum, which shows the water worlds of the North and Baltic Seas and the North Atlantic using game and adventure stations, ship models, travel aquariums, penguins and whale models. Opposite the Stralsund harbor is the famous Gorch Fock, the large sailing training ship of the Imperial Navy.

Vacation with the family on the Mecklenburg Lake District

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is known as the land of 1,000 lakes: the largest and most popular lake is the Müritz, but then there are also the Schweriner See, Fleesensee, Kummerower See, the Shalsee, the Inselsee, the Plauer See. Just a thousand. The lake district is an Eldorado for water sports enthusiasts and families. It is best to go by canoe, houseboat or raft to explore this beautiful landscape. Campsites and inns on the banks are ideal for tours. There are numerous family-friendly beaches, from the Bolter Canal via Röblinsee, Stechlinsee and Fürstensee to the Volksbad in Waren (Müritz) and the bathing beach Ferienpark Mirow in Granzow. Sporty families can dive, surf, water ski and sail in this water sports area.
