Spain is the most popular summer destination for Germans and has been for decades! No wonder, after all, some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe are on Spanish soil, as are excellent hotels and club complexes. Many hotels in Spain are located directly on the sea and offer you a perfect place to switch off. You can also spend your time in Spain in a private atmosphere and simply rent a holiday home or a beautiful finca typical of Spain. In both cases you spend a wonderful beach holiday in Spain with your children and only have to choose one coast. What should it be for you – Atlantic or Mediterranean coast?

Exploration tours and leisure activities

The choice of excursion destinations and activities is extensive! Naturals will find many great hiking or cycling trails on the mainland as well as on the Balearic Islands or Canaries, on which you can take a closer look at the Spanish idyll. Starting with mountain ranges, over beach and coastal areas to sections of forest or volcanic ascents. Nature in Spain offers you many opportunities to spend an active family vacation during your family vacation. The beaches of the country are also varied and vary from natural small bays to lively areas with a large tourist offer, with playgrounds for the kids and water sports for the older family members. City trips are also part of vacation planning and can be combined with beach vacations, especially in Barcelona and Málaga. Enjoy summer, sun, sea and beach, but also pure culture! Architectural highlights, cultural sights, as well as leisure and water parks complete the leisure offer!

Come on, let’s discover Spain!

You can have a great family vacation in Spain in a variety of ways. Especially in the south of the country and in the Canaries and the Balearic Islands, numerous hotels by the sea are lined up, which are an ideal holiday home for you. Club vacations are particularly popular with families in Spain, because in most cases children, thanks to animation and childcare, are well catered for. If you prefer to make yourself comfortable in a private atmosphere and would like to have a home feeling, you can rent a holiday home, because this creates the feeling of being in your own four walls. Renting a finca is just as private but with an even greater holiday feeling. No matter which variant you choose, in any case you have an excellent starting point for your vacation! Spend your time in Spain by the sea or plan trips to water and amusement parks, to exciting cities or on a bike to explore – an exciting holiday awaits you with your children in Spain!

Variety in Northern Spain

In the northwest of mainland Spain is the region of Galicia, where the coast is made up of beaches and bays, but also of cliffs and gives a unique picture. The Atlantic coast in the north of Spain is also less crowded than the south coast of the country, which is why you can look forward to a rather pristine environment and less crowded beaches. In Galicia, a trip to the regional capital, Santiago de Compostela, is also worthwhile. Here you will find an impressive cathedral, several remarkable town squares and museums that are worth visiting. The old town, where the cathedral is also located, is also incredibly beautiful and invites you to stroll – it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old town also got the place on the World Heritage List because the Jakobsweg also ends here, which attracts many pilgrims to the city. Culture and nature are equally in the foreground in the north if you plan your vacation in this part of Spain! Of course, there are other regions in the north that are worth seeing: Particularly noteworthy is the Costa Verde in Asturias, which also shines with its traditional and unspoiled surroundings.

In the northeast you will also find the Costa Brava, which is also a popular travel destination with a wide range of leisure activities. The coast of Catalonia is therefore particularly suitable for a vacation if you want to experience a lot. The Butterfly Park Empuriabrava is an impressive experience for children and adults alike: on 1,000 square meters, you can discover colorful butterflies up close in a tropical climate. An experience that should not be missing during a vacation in Spain, especially with children!

The center of the Iberian Peninsula

The center and geographical center of mainland Spain is Madrid. The big city gives you a historical, but also modern insight into the history and architecture of Spain. In addition, you can look forward to exciting excursion destinations in Spain’s capital, which are an absolute highlight for large and small holidaymakers. So you can spend your time in Madrid with an extensive cultural program, visit the Royal Palace or admire impressive works of art in the Museo del Prado. A particularly exciting destination for children in Spain is the Parque Warner, which is very close to Madrid. Different themed areas and exciting attractions ensure a day of fun that will make your vacation in Spain unforgettable with your children. A visit to Real Madrid’s impressive football stadium will be at least as exciting for you and your mini-kickers. The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is open to visitors almost all year round and ensures a truly unique experience among real sports fans!

Big city life in Spain

If you want to explore other exciting cities in Spain, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga and Seville should be high on your list. Barcelona is located in the east of the country and is a particularly colorful and lively metropolis. Here you will also find some hotels that are located directly by the sea, but in Barcelona it is mainly the city center that makes a visit so attractive. Antoni Gaudi’s works stand out in the metropolis – the architecture and the museums are very worth seeing and also a highlight for children. A visit to Las Ramblas, the most famous pedestrian zone in the city, is also highly recommended. You can go shopping or just stroll a bit and buy souvenirs. Street artists ensure that there is always a good atmosphere and your kids will surely be amazed by the hustle and bustle. In the city of Valencia, the historic city center is waiting for you to explore – but modern architecture also shapes the cityscape, such as the Opera and Culture Center Palau de les Arts Reina Sofís. In the nature reserve La Albufera just a few kilometers outside of Valencia you can enjoy beaches or go exploring by bike. The largest lake in Spain is also located here!

The city of Malaga is located on the Costa del Sol, where you can also expect a lot of culture during your family vacation in Spain. The Alcazaba, a former fortress that towers over the city, is particularly worth seeing. However, you can also spend a lot of time in nature here, for example visiting the Montes des Malaga Natural Park and adding one of the numerous hiking trails to your excursion destinations in Spain. Seville, the capital of Andalusia, also offers an impressive city palace, the Alcázar of Seville, the Giralda bell tower and the third largest cathedral in the world. On a vacation in Spain, the destinations are almost limitless.

The south coast

The region of Andalusia extends on the south coast, which is particularly suitable for a family holiday thanks to the Mediterranean coast, the Costa del Sol. One of the most famous centers in the region is Torremolinos, whose extensive beach is perfect for a family club holiday and provides plenty of variety so that every family member can enjoy their vacation in Spain. There is also a crocodile park here, where you can admire PACO, one of the largest European crocodiles. The Aquapark Torremolinos also provides outdoor fun: here you can race down slides during your vacation in Spain!

The Costa del la Luz is also located on the south coast of Spain and extends to the Portuguese border. Here you will also find wonderful beaches to spend your vacation sunbathing and playing with your children. For horse lovers, the Feria del Caballo in Jerez attracts visitors to the coast at the beginning of the year. The horse fair impresses with dressage and show jumping tournaments and in addition to the competitions you can fill your stomach with tapas and watch the flamenco dancers.

A little further to the east you will find the "White Coast" – the German translation for the Costa Blanca. Its picturesque beaches are the main reason for families to spend their vacation here. If you don’t just splash around in the sea, but are looking for more action, you can find water parks in several places, for example the Aquopolis Torrevieja water park.

Dreamlike island world

Mallorca, the largest island in the Balearic Islands, is inextricably linked to the idea of a holiday in Spain. Known for a long time mainly because of its extensive nightlife, the island is now very popular with families. Many hotels are located directly on the sea and offer a great entertainment program for their little guests. There are also plenty of excursion destinations on the island – explore the island by bike or go on a hike with the whole family. The kids are also looking forward to a visit to the Safari Zoo or Palma Aquarium. Water fun with a variety of slides awaits every single family member. If you don’t like Mallorca completely, you can avoid Menorca, Formentera and Ibiza – you can also enjoy nature and idyll on these Spanish islands, as well as varied excursion destinations with the kids. No matter where you spend your vacation in Spain, it is characterized by sun, sea and fun with the family!

Of the sun-drenched islands of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is particularly popular with families, as it is more quiet here and you can relax particularly well in the dunes and on the beach. The Canary Island of Gran Canaria offers a particularly large number of leisure activities for young and old. From the daily animation at the hotel pool to the adventurous jeep safari in the central mountains – there is something for every taste! A highlight is Puerto Rico, located away from the major tourist resorts, where you can get to know the Canary Islands under water. Dive with the children in a submarine and you will get a completely different view of the sea and the underwater world with this unique experience. There are also other islands in the Canary Islands that are worth a visit, so when you are on holiday in Spain you are also spoiled for choice between Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Gomera and El Hierro.

The top beaches in Spain

There are beaches in Spain as far as the eye can see, which is why it will be difficult for you to choose a favorite beach for yourself. Spend a vacation in Spain with your children and want to combine cultural vacation with beach vacation, then you are exactly right in Barcelona and Málaga. In Barcelona you can head to Playa de Barceloneta and in Málaga to Playa de la Malagueta. Both beaches also have lively promenades so that it never gets boring and you can spend varied holidays in Spain. High in the north, in Galicia, the Praia de Carnota beach is a particularly great destination. Here you will find an interesting mix of sandbars, dunes and the Monte Pindo Mountains – there is hardly a more idyllic setting! The Playas les Marines on the Costa Blanca is particularly family-friendly, where the beach slopes gently into the water and is therefore ideal for the little ones. There are also playgrounds on this stretch of coast, so the kids always have enough to do and will fall into bed in the evening, exhausted.

One of the most beautiful beaches in the Balearic Islands is the Es Trenc beach in Mallorca, which exudes a Caribbean feeling with its beautiful fine sandy beach. The beach is particularly natural and stands out due to the many green areas around. In addition, lifeguards secure the beach, which means that the offspring can play in the water carefree. In the Canary Islands, it is primarily the Playa de Papagayo on Lanzarote, which catches the eye with clear water and a semi-circular bay with a great sandy beach. On all beaches in Spain you can enjoy your family vacation and find the right environment for all needs.
