Fever in young children
Fever in young children
Fever in young children can be quite harmless. Before you go to the doctor, you should first rule out other causes. For example, did the child romp around in the last half hour? This can actually be the reason for an increased body temperature, and after a short rest it is fever disappeared again. There is another simple reason: dressed too warm. toddlers often cannot express themselves in such a way that they are understood in every case, and they may not even know the connections. The parents are asked. In this case, too, it is easy to remedy the situation.
Infections – the number one cause of fever in young children
A more serious nature is the fever associated with an infection in young children. Fever is a natural reaction of the body to viruses or bacteria, for which an elevated body temperature is usually not pleasant. The fever inhibits their spread and thus helps massively to fight the infection. In these cases, fever is not the cause but the result of the infection.
First of all, fever should be seen positively. The infant’s defenses are intact if it responds to an infection with a fever. And that it is more or less often confronted with an infection is a matter of course at this age. In kindergarten, it cannot be avoided that the toddler becomes infected. Infectious diseases are often only noticed when it is too late for an infection. But then you usually know very quickly what the infection is and can then decide for yourself whether a visit to the doctor is necessary or whether it is enough to let the toddler take care of the bed – if it is ready for it. At least you should keep it from becoming a source of infection for others.
Teething – often a source of fever
There are some serious teething problems that you can vaccinate against. That is recommended. Others, on the other hand, are harmless, and it is even good for the child to have them when they are young. They are often less bad at this age and then lead to lifelong immunity to this disease. Under no circumstances should this be prevented. Because if these diseases only appear in adulthood, they are often associated with complications.
Girls have rubella in particular, a viral disease against which one can vaccinate, and even after an illness the girls are immune for life. If the rubella only gets during pregnancy, complications and malformations can be expected in the child.
