German for children and teenagers
The Humboldt Institute offers German courses for children and young people at numerous locations in Germany and Austria. The youngest students between the ages of 7 and 13 belong to the children’s age category. At Schloss Wittgenstein we welcome children from the age of 7 and offer accompanying German courses for parents. We welcome students between the ages of 14 and 18 in the course locations for young people.
Year-round German courses for children and teenagers (365 days a year)
The German courses for children and teenagers are offered all year round in Bad Schussenried and Lindenberg. There are numerous start dates to choose from and allow a flexible course duration. Depending on the age group, the German courses are offered with 25 lessons (children) or 30 lessons (teenagers), each lasting 45 minutes.
The curriculum has a high learning progression, because it is designed for students who are planning to go to school in Germany or who want to improve their academic performance in German lessons in their home country. Lessons are structured and designed specifically for students in these age groups: they are action-oriented, interactive and challenging, but at the same time very effective, and they are fun!
Summer courses for children and teenagers
In the summer months, numerous summer courses are offered at various locations in Germany and Austria. Some summer course locations for young people are in the center of larger cities such as Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Munich or Vienna. The summer courses for children usually take place in smaller towns. The safety of the students is always guaranteed, no matter which course location you choose.
Like the year-round German courses, the summer courses also include 25 or 30 lessons per week. The teaching aims to close the individual knowledge gaps of the students and to improve the language level of each student on this basis. Therefore, every student writes a placement test on the first day of the course and is divided into the optimal class for their language level based on the test result.

German + school attendance
The “School attendance in Germany” program enables high-performing students between the ages of 10 and 17 to attend a boarding school in Germany. There, the school leavers qualify for studying at a university in Germany.
Preparatory German courses
The basis for attending a German school is that students have good academic performance and sufficient knowledge of the German language. Therefore, our participants first take one of our intensive German courses with 30 lessons of 45 minutes each in Bad Schussenried or Lindenberg. In both places we offer the ideal conditions for our students to feel comfortable and get used to living in Germany. By teaching in small classes, the students learn the German language in a short time. They also receive optimal support outside of class and get to know life in the boarding school community.
Choosing the right boarding school
After completing the German course, the students will be integrated into a class at their boarding school in accordance with their age and level of proficiency. The Humboldt Institute cooperates with renowned boarding schools throughout Germany and is happy to help you find the ideal school. In the partner schools section, you will find a brochure with over 40 boarding schools in Germany that accommodate students from the Humboldt Institute. Please contact us and we will be happy to advise you on choosing the right school. Depending on their previous knowledge, the students need around two to eight months to acquire the required German language skills (at least completion of Humboldt level B2).
According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the Humboldt Institute differentiates its courses according to 6 levels. This infographic gives you an overview of the timing and levels of the German courses at the Humboldt Institute:
The times refer to an intensive course 30 with 30 lessons per week.
Additional offer school transition course
Following the regular German course, we offer a five-week subject-specific school transition course. After this preparatory course, our students can switch to a German boarding school.

School crossing rate
After successfully completing Humboldt level B2, our students can plan their schooling in Germany to continue their school career and complete their Abitur and then study at a university. To make the transition from German to school easier, the Humboldt Institute offers a special school transition course that prepares for the vocabulary and methodology of the most important school subjects.
The school transition course has a modular structure and includes the subject modules natural sciences (mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry) and humanities (history, politics, geography, religion). The musical subjects are also discussed. In addition to the acquisition of important specialist vocabulary, skills such as text indexing, source work, research and presentation as well as social forms such as business games and project work are dealt with.
The school transition course can only be booked after successfully completing Humboldt level B2.
