Confidence returns to skoda auto deutschland (SAD), the largest car importer in germany. After difficult months with the corona and semiconductor crises, the latest registration figures in november show a "turnaround for us", as SAD managing director steffen spies reported in weiterstadt on wednesday. "Due to improved delivery capability, we have achieved a market share of 5.8 percent this month." he expects the positive trend to continue in december as well.

For skoda, 2021 was a car year with light and shade on the german market. Spies: "after the first corona phase in 2020, we have made a very good start to 2021. In the first seven months, we have achieved a cumulative market share of six percent and at times moved up to fifth place in the brand ranking." unfortunately, the corona pandemic developed another challenge during the year with the shortage of raw materials and supplies. in june, the first effects of the disrupted supply chains would have become apparent.

In view of the circumstances, spies was satisfied with the performance. As of the end of november 2021, skoda in germany registered 135.857 new registrations (down 16.2 percent) and a market share of 5.7 percent. spieb emphasized in a press release that the company will defend and consolidate its sixth place in the registration statistics, which it achieved last year behind five german manufacturers. "The gap to fifth place was significantly reduced compared to the previous year, while at the same time the lead over seventh place was further extended." skoda will thus end the year as the most successful import brand – for the 13th time. times in a row.

Skoda enyaq coupe iv (pre-series)

Spies thanked the skoda partners for what they had achieved, saying they were an important pillar for the brand’s strong position in germany: "in 2021, our dealership partners again contributed with a great deal of commitment and inventiveness to inspiring and retaining customers under sometimes difficult conditions. (…) with the launch of our communication offensive, we are deepening the important exchange with retailers and are already seeing the first positive results."

The SAD managing director also sees the current high order backlog as a positive factor. "The order books of skoda partners are well filled, and customers continue to show their confidence in the brand through extremely high demand", according to spies. In this context, he referred to the enyaq iv electric SUV, with more than 25.000 orders and almost 12.000 new registrations. "The enyaq iv is not a niche offering, but has immediately established itself as a high-volume model in the middle of our portfolio."

In addition to the new fabia generation, the importer’s hopes for 2022 rest above all on the enyaq coupe iv, which will celebrate its world premiere in january and will also be available as a particularly sporty version later in the year. Another highlight is the refreshed karoq compact SUV (market launch in spring 2022), which is now the most popular skoda model in Germany after the best-selling octavia. Customers are also attracted by the sporty "monte carlo" design line for the fabia and the "tour-special models for several model series. Spies concludes: "all signs point to a positive development in the number of new registrations."
