German Children’s Fund helps 100 schoolchildren in Stuttgart’s Hallschlag district
Anyone who entered the Hallschlag children’s and youth center on July 29 could think that he was in school: 100 children with brand new satchels scurried through the facility. One of them is Max, 11, who is holding his new school backpack with a beam on his face. Facility management Steffen Brodbeck is pleased that the German children’s aid organization has handed over 100 satchels and school backpacks to the Hallschlag children’s and youth center. Because: "Through our long work here in the district, we know that many children or their parents not yourself can afford such a well-equipped school bag. Our cooperation partners in the district as well as the shared accommodation for people with refugee experience also gave thanks for this campaign"
"Many parents are overwhelmed by the financial burdens caused by their children going to school," says Frank Hailer, site manager of the German Children’s Fund. “The federal government’s education and participation package does not fully cover this, but it is still important that parents apply for this benefit for their children. Many children live in Stuttgart, whose parents have little or no income. These children also have the right to equal opportunities. Today we can help with the 60 satchels and 40 backpacks in a very concrete way, but that is only a small drop in the bucket. The German Children’s Fund is calling on the federal government, the federal states and local authorities to help these children more than before and to support them better than before. ”
Maria Haller-Kindler, Children’s Representative for the State Capital of Stuttgart, adds: “In Stuttgart, good education for children and young people is a particular focus of local politics. It is very important to us. We keep in mind that the future of young people is decided primarily at school and that the course is set early. Education and training must not depend on financial performance The parents fail. That is why I would like to take the opportunity to appeal to families in need to take advantage of the federal education and participation package for their children. Not all beneficiaries make use of the services that can be requested through the job center. ”
Jessica Zinner, Branch Director of BBBank, adds: “Education is an important asset of our society. As a large community of members, we want to help improve children’s educational opportunities. We are happy to support the schoolbag campaign, which creates more educational justice for poor children. ”
Social security for children and educational justice should be one of the richest industrialized nations of the world actually be a matter of course. However, the reality has been different for many years. In Germany, every fifth child is affected by poverty and in many cases, the parents’ wallet determines children’s educational opportunities. The German Children’s Fund helps here by supporting projects and initiatives that have made the participation of children and young people, regardless of their origin or residence status, the principle of their work, but also by unbureaucratic help, such as with its annual school bag campaign. So far, over 15,000 satchels worth more than two million euros have been distributed to children all over Germany.
