A landmark that can be seen from afar is the 14-storey HKB tower in Neubrandenburg. In it emerged high-quality office, office and practice rooms. For the required wall and ceiling surfaces in

Among other things, Lars Schams and his team put Q3 quality on the “Rigips 4PRO” mounting plate.

Since its completion in 1965, the House of Culture and Education, or “HKB” for short, has been considered the cultural center of Neubrandenburg. As part of a comprehensive renovation, the listed building ensemble has been expanded to become a modern educational, event and business center. Between the newly constructed event building and the refurbished “Haus A”, in which the Neubrandenburg city archives reside, the 14 floors of the HKB Tower stretch into the sky. The expansion team led by Lars Schams has worked its way up in a very short time. Most recently, the upper levels were expanded after the lower levels had already been completed and leased to various service companies and a doctor’s office.

Construction site logistics with open facade

“Our work in the HKB tower began early, when the dismantled facade was still completely open. Using an outside elevator, we have brought the necessary amount of gypsum plasterboard and other building material to each floor and stored it there until it has been processed, “recalls the managing director of Schams Bauunternehmen GmbH. After the completion of the new facades, the drywall professionals were grateful for every component that they did not need to bring to one of the two passenger elevators or the staircase to the appropriate “height”. “Each floor has a floor space of about 100 m2. As the tenants were able to determine the room layout themselves, we initially completed only the ceiling surfaces. The dividing walls then followed later in consultation with the client and the tenants, “says Lars Schams.

Perfect surfaces for light-flooded rooms

In a first processing step, the exact measurement and fastening of the vernier hanger were carried out on the concrete slab resting on steel girders. “Before we were able to mount the ceiling substructure from CD 60/27 profiles, a spray plaster was first applied to the concrete ceiling and the steel girders for fire protection reasons. Then we mounted the substructure, which was suspended about 400 mm deep. For the planking of the ceiling, we have consistently used the ‘Rigips 4PRO’. A special expansion plate with four flattened edges, which has made our job much easier, “reports Schams.

Just these factory-flattened edges ensure a significant time and material savings with better final results. Due to the special edge shape, the reinforcement strip lies in the joint bed of the “Rigips 4PRO” and thus enables optimum machining of all butt joints on ceiling and wall surfaces. Especially for Q3 requirements from the point of view of the dry construction professional an invaluable advantage: “When processing normal cutting edges, there is an excessive amount of filler applied quickly – especially in the area of transverse joints. The interiors of the HKB tower are almost flooded with light through large windows on two opposite sides. Any putty application, any unevenness would be seen here immediately. The “4PRO” already plays the first time advantage during the assembly preparation: unlike normal building boards, the transverse edges of the boards do not need to be chamfered due to the flattened edges, “says Lars Schrams.

Robust joints with reduced material and time expenditure

Even in the first putty less joint filler is required, since only the joint bed resulting from the flattened edges must be filled. Then the glass fiber reinforcement strip is inserted and filled. Also in this putty course as well as the finish, the surface to be machined by the given joint bed is smaller. The subsequent grinding effort is also reduced. “All in all, we have saved around 40 percent of filler material with the ‘Rigips 4PRO’ and have made noticeably faster progress with the work. In addition, there is an improved joint strength, thanks to which even laying with a cross joint was possible. As a result, we were not only able to guarantee particularly smooth but also robust and durable ceiling surfaces, “says Lars Schams.

Future prospective tenants of the HKB have the opportunity to convince themselves of the quality of the finished ceiling surfaces in sample rooms in the first tower days. “Or take the elevator to the thirteenth and fourteenth floors and enjoy a cappuccino with a vision in the local tower café. Here, too, we have created perfect surfaces with the ‘4PRO’ panels, “says Lars Schams.
