House maria peace

Close contact has been maintained with the Haus Maria Frieden children’s home in Velbert-Langenberg for many years. In addition to financial and material support, the Lions Club Velbert-Heiligenhaus invites the children’s home to an action day once a year. As part of an all-day children’s event, personal contact between Lions families and the children in the children’s home is cultivated and expanded.

With varied programs at different locations, the club would like to organize a few great hours for the children and young people, as in previous years in "Irrland" in Kevelaer, in the climbing garden at the Gasometer Oberhausen, or during the dragon boat race in Überruhr or a hike with GPS orientation search etc. In the course of years has resulted in a whole range of varied and community-building tours.

On all children’s home days, many Lions friends and their families also participate and contribute to the buffet, so that – not least through the Help the Lions women – almost always complete self-catering for around 100 children and adolescents on these campaign days.

In the house Maria Frieden, with the children, the Lions friends from Velbert and Heiligenhaus are now called ‘our brothers’; the residents will certainly get used to the fact that ‘sisters’ are now members of the club.

The children’s and youth welfare center Haus Maria Frieden offers various help offers for children, adolescents, young adults and families. At the center of the work is the relationship between the adult and the young person. Contacts with parents and important caregivers play an important role and form a focus of the educational work. The aim is to involve parents in the development of their child and to strengthen their responsibility for their child.

The Maria Frieden house is located on the edge of the center of Velbert-Langenberg. The location close to the center enables young people to integrate and participate in everyday public life.

Under the sponsorship of the Maria Ward sisters, Haus Maria Frieden has developed from a family-replacing children’s home for war orphans to a modern institution for child and youth welfare. The Haus Maria Frieden is part of the Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne and a member of the Catholic Working Group for Home and Special Needs Education of the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne.
