How we work

Every cent of your donation is used for directlyfunding aid projects for children. That is the central promise of BILD helps e.V. “A heart for children”. To ensure that this is fulfilled, the association hassubjected itself to strict rules. Every year is paid by an auditor. Below you can read about the most important questions and answers concerning audits and the use of which the donations are put.

WHO AUDITS THE ASSOCIATION?

Stiehler-Vietzen-Nolte-Burgmann, which specializes in the law governing non-profit organizations, is audited in detail by the Hamburg firm. This report then submitted to the Tax Bureau for Hamburg-Nord (tax number 17/400/03832), which certifies the association’s charitable status with a valid notice of exclusion pursuant to sections 52 ff of the German Tax Code -most recently on 2 March 2016.

WHO BEARS THE CURRENT EXPENSES?

The expenses and administrative costs incurred by “A Heart for Children” are covered by Axel Springer SE and the interest earned on this. We cantherefore channel every single cent of your donation straight to fund children’s aid projects.

HOW HIGH ARE CURRENT EXPENSES?

The total costs and administrative costs to a total of € 592,951 in 2016, which corresponds to an administrative cost ratio of 2.5 per cent in relation to the donations received in 2016.

WHO PAYS THE MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL?

All five members of the Executive Council and the Board of Trustees work on an honorary basis.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE DONATED FUNDS?

BILD helps e.V. “A Heart for Children” uses the fundscollected every year during the TV gala along with other donations primarily tofinance projects in Germany. International funds support projects, which are usually carried out by reputable partner organizations. When theyapply for the funds, the project partners have already received their financial statements and the progress of the project has been completed. The funds collected every year during the TV galaalong with other donations are used in one year to fund the projects andcases supported by “A Heart for Children“.

WHO DECIDES ON THE DISTRIBUTION?

Every day “A Heart for Kids” receives dozens ofrequests for funds from projects all over the world. Each individual request is subject to an examination procedure. On this basis, theassociation’s Executive Council then decides how the donated funds are to bedistributed.

Transparency and control

We are committed to the efficient and transparent treatment of funded funds entrusted to us. In view of this commitment, BILD helps e. V. hasinstalled various control and monitoring mechanisms, for instance in the form of guidelines, work instructions and compliance standards. The children’s aid projectsthat we support.

In 2013, the Association’s Executive Council is committed to anti-corruption and anonymously if necessary.
