Hyperthyroidism in children (hyperthyroidism)

In childhood, the acute onset of overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) is a very rare occurrence.

This leads to an enlargement of the thyroid gland and excess hormones. This affects many organs in their function. Basedow is almost always the reason for hyperthyroidism- illness, an autoimmune disease that hardly occurs before puberty. More girls than boys are affected.

Typical signs of an overactive thyroid are

– eyes appearing enlarged

– enlarged thyroid gland (especially when the head is tilted backwards)
visible)

The most striking thing is that the teenagers lose weight and sweat more, despite their cravings.
They seem closed and self-contained.

Behind Graves’ disease there is a strong overwhelming burden for the sick. The family situation is often such that the children feel that they have to take on a lot of responsibility, which means that they "grow up" much too early and are extremely overwhelmed.

What a trained therapist can do

After careful examination and extensive discussion, therapy in a holistic sense is necessary.

In addition to blood tests and appropriate medication under close supervision, it is important to create a home environment that is healing. All participants should be made aware of what is behind the disease and help should be given in a discussion with offers (e.g. family therapy, therapeutic painting).

From a homeopathic point of view, the right constitutional remedy can be used to help.

The thyroid itself can be done well with long-term intake of thyroid gland.

Basically :

No food or supplements with iodine!

Great care is required as more and more foods contain iodine. Give your child the necessary family backing.

Be patient! Basedow forms in 30% of cases- illness spontaneously back. Long-term control is necessary in any case so that relapses and possible transitions in chronic autoimmune diseases of the thyroid are discovered and treated promptly.

Fortunately, as mentioned at the beginning, hyperthyroidism in children is very rare ♥
