Jochberg () – hike at walchensee

Jochberg (1.565m) – hike at Walchensee

The ascent to the Jochberg

Summit cross on the Jochberg

The starting point of this hike is the Wanderparkplatz on the Kesselbergstraße, Coming from Kochel right and just before the small town Urfeld on the northern shore of Lake Walchensee.
The small parking lot is located at 850 meters and the trail is advertised directly from there.

It works right on the Kesselbergstraße going on and goes quite fast, below the Desselkopf, steeply into the forest. The path leads through dense beech and spruce forest and therefore offers little free view over the Herzogstand or down to the Kochelsee.
At about 1,340 meters altitude, the road then forks. Our path turns left here and At 1,400 meters altitude, it goes out of the woods.
After that comes quite soon a grazing gate which still has to be crossed, before the left already the most grassy peaks of the Jochberg waiting for the hiker.

From there it is not far to the summit. Of the Way gets steeper a bit as through the forest and in sunshine it can be a bit sweaty again, why you should already have enough liquid to drink. A short time later you are already at the summit.

View from Jochberg to Walchensee

The Jochberg offers a very nice view of the Walchensee and at the same time on the Kochel. In direct neighborhood one looks westwards on the Herzogstand and also over to the Zugspitze. To the east you can see the beautiful Benediktenwand and to the south Karwendelgebirge.

The summit of Jochberg offers in addition to the beautiful view also plenty of space to lazy after successful ascent in the meadow and a little doze.
However, the course is also needed, because this mountain is very popular and solitude at the summit is rather a foreign word.

The descent from the Jochberg

Actually you could take the ascent for the descent. But if you feel desperate for a small refreshment and a beer during the descent, you should at the fork in the road below the summit the sign (sharp right) to Jocheralm consequences.
The Jocheralm has opened from the latest Pentecost to Kirchweih for hungry and thirsty hikers. Rumor has it that the Brown bear Bruno 2006 there is, because there are so good Leberkäs; -.)

After the Jocheralm, it then goes down a track to the southwest slightly. Relatively soon it goes back into the forest. After a short hike, it goes to direction Sachenbach turn right off the gravel road. At another fork in the road, it goes right again and relatively quickly down to the village Sachenbach and the Northeast shore of Lake Walchensee.

From there it goes along the paved road along the lakeshore back to Urfeld.
Unfortunately, the last few meters to the trail parking lot you have to walk up again on the busy Kesselbergstraße.
